McDaniel Claims Charlotte Half Marathon Win

ATHENS, W.Va. – Former Concord University cross country and track and field standout Lance McDaniel won  the Charlotte's Thunder Road Half Marathon for the third straight year Saturday, November 15.

McDaniel ran 1:13:39 for the 13.1-mile course and broke the course record in the process.

The time was a personal-best for McDaniel as well.

McDaniel, a current employee of Concord's advancement department, competed at Concord from 2005-2010 for coach Mike Cox.

While an undergraduate, he earned first team all-conference honors in cross country in 2007 by finishing eighth at the conference championship meet. During the 2007 season, he helped Concord win their third conference cross country title in school history. He captured second team all-conference honors in 2009 by finishing 17th at the conference  championship meet.

On the track, he excelled as well. McDaniel was a seven-time all-conference recipient including a second place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase three times at the conference championship meet.

McDaniel still holds the school record in the steeplechase with a time of 9:38.50 which he ran at the Duke Invitational during the 2010 outdoor season.
