ATHENS, W. Va. - With just 10 games remaining in the 2013-14 regular season, the Concord University men's basketball team will look to finish the year strong and build momentum for the upcoming Mountain East Conference Tournament starting with wins Thursday vs. West Virginia Wesleyan and Saturday at Notre Dame College.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• At 5-13 overall and 2-10 in Mountain East Conference play, Concord currently finds itself slotted 11th in the conference standings.

• The Mountain Lions are coming off of a pair of losses at UVa.-Wise (71-68) and Glenville State (103-92).

• West Virginia Wesleyan enters Athens on a four-game winning streak and ranked fourth in the MEC standings at 13-7 overall and 8-4 in league play.

• CU and W. Va. Wesleyan have split their last two games with the Bobcats holding a 32-23 edge in the all-time series.

• Notre Dame has lost three out of four games, pushing its record to 6-11 overall and 4-7 in MEC games.

• Eight of Concord's losses this season have come by nine points or less with six of those defeats coming by five or fewer points.

• The Mountain Lions are 3-3 this season when playing at the Carter Center.

• Concord begins the week ranked fourth in the league in three-point percentage (35.4), fifth in free throw percentage (71.9) and sixth in scoring defense (81.7 ppg allowed).

• Earlier in the season, Concord dropped an 81-65 decision to West Virginia Wesleyan in Buckhannon, W. Va. Sophomore guard Cam Shannon led the Mountain Lions with a game-high 18 points.

• In what was the first all-time meeting between the two school's Notre Dame defeated Concord 92-82 on Nov. 23. Junior guard A.J. Williams scored 19 points in the loss.

• Shannon has emerged as one of Concord's top scoring threats over the last five games, averaging 18.6 points per game (ppg) while shooting 46.6 percent (27-for-58) from the field, 41.7 percent (5-for-12) from three-point range and 81.0 percent (34-for-42) from the foul line.

• Shannon, who scored a career-high 25 points at Glenville State, has shown a knack for getting to the foul line to the tune of four foul shots per game which ranks second on the team behind junior guard Mike Boyd (6.7 free throws per game).

• Boyd, Concord's leader in scoring (14.7 ppg), assists (4.1 per game), steals (1.1 per game), field goal percentage (55.3 percent) and minutes played (32.1 per game), is just two assists shy of passing Julius Lockett (1986-90) for 11th place all-time in Mountain Lion history in career assists.

• Boyd is just 31 assists shy of moving into the top-10 ahead of Todd Keffer (342 assists / 1990-93).

• On the year, Boyd ranks 10th in the MEC in assists per game, 12th in field goal percentage, 12th in assists/turnover ratio (1.35) and 20th in scoring.

• Junior guard Paul Byrd has started the Mountain Lions' last two games. He grabbed a season-high six rebounds against UVa.-Wise and scored 13 points at Glenville State, his second double-digit scoring performance of the year.

• Sophomore forward Terry Hopewell is the league's fourth leading shot blocker with 24 rejections on the season. Hopewell has blocked two or more shots in a game on seven occasions this year.

• Freshman guard B.J. Hamlet has made a team-high 37 three-pointers so far in his rookie season, ranking him ninth in three-pointers made per game.

• Hamlet's 37.8 percent three-point percentage is the 15th highest in the league.

• Freshman guard Jalen Camper compiled 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field to go with one three-pointer and two foul shots for his third double-digit scoring effort of the year.

• Six of Concord's final 10 games will be played at the Carter Center.
