MOUNTAIN LIOIN NOTES
• In addition to being the Mountain Lions' first MEC game, Saturday's contest against Notre Dame will also feature a special ceremony prior to tipoff as the court at the Carter Center will officially be named after former Mountain Lion coaching greats Don Christie and
Steve Cox.
• Concord is coming off of a thrilling 81-78 home victory over Bluefield State on Nov. 18 that featured a halfcourt game-winning shot at the buzzer from junior guard A.J. Williams.
• Williams had the best performance of his young Concord career in the win, registering 26 points and eight rebounds.
• Another new Mountain Lion making an immediate impact in his Carter Center debut was sophomore forward
Terry Hopewell, who blocked six shots, including a potential go-ahead basket for Bluefield in the final seconds of the regulation that helped set up Williams' game-winner.
• For the year, Hopewell has already blocked eight shots; CU had just one player with more than eight blocks all of last season.
• Hopewell's six blocks against Bluefield State were the most by a Concord player since Romel Kemp blocked six shots at West Virginia Wesleyan on Feb. 1, 2012.
• Junior guard
Mike Boyd and freshman guard
Ali Barnes have both scored in double figures in all three of Concord's games this season.
• Boyd, Concord's do-everything guard, is leading the Mountain Lions in points per game (18.7), field goal percentage (20-for-38 / .526), assists per game (4.3), steals per game (2.0) and minutes played (34.7 per game).
• Meanwhile, Barnes has provided the Mountain Lions with instant offense off the bench at 15.0 ppg. CU's top long-range threat, Barnes is 8-for-19 from three-point range this year.
• The quartet of Hopewell, Williams, freshman forward
Jalen Camper and sophomore forward
Nick Moyer have shouldered the brunt of the rebounding load of Concord so far this season. Moyer and Williams are both averaging 5.0 rebounds per game with Hopewell and Camper close behind at 4.7 and 4.3, respectively.
• A key to Concord's wins have been early leads, CU is 2-0 this season when holding the advantage at halftime.
• Concord is yet trail by more than eight points through 120 minutes played in 2013-14.
• Sophomore forward
Taylor Smith also added to Concord's strong bench play against Bluefield State with eight points and four rebounds in 13 minutes of action.
• The Mountain Lions' bench is currently outscoring their reserve counterparts 114-89 (+25).
• Despite just starting his third season as head coach,
Kent McBride is already only five wins away from moving into eighth place for career wins by a Concord coach.
• Notre Dame comes to Athens at 0-3 overall on the season after losses against Winston-Salem State (102-84), Indiana (Pa.) (87-70) and Fayetteville State (93-86).
• The Falcons are led by Lawrence DeArmond, who averaging 21.7 ppg, 4.3 rpg and 0.7 blocks per game.
• After Saturday's contest, the Mountain Lions will welcome Urbana to the Carter Center on Monday. The Blue Knights begin play this weekend at 0-3. Before arriving at Concord, Urbana will make the trip to Wise, Va. to play fellow MEC member UVa.-Wise.
• Urbana's Danny Goins has scored 16.7 ppg through three games.
• If Concord sweeps both games, the Mountain Lions will have a 3-0 record at home for the first time since 2006-07.
