Trent Howard starts his fifth season on the basketball sidelines as an assistant coach for head coach Todd May in 2023-24.
With Howard on the bench, Concord has continued its success by playing in the Mountain East Conference Quarterfinals in all four previous seasons.Â
During the 2021-22 season, CU finished sixth in the MEC with an 11-11 conference mark. Matt Weir was an All-MEC Second Team selection and made the All-MEC Tournament Team after pouring in 30 points in the MEC Quarterfinals against Charleston. The 2021 shortened season saw similar success as Concord finished 9-8. Among the highlights was Concord taking down top-five, nationally-ranked West Liberty at the Carter Center as well as a double overtime triumph over Davis & Elkins in the first round of the MEC Tournament. Malik Johnson was an all-conference performer under Howard and May's guidance.Â
Howard got the privilege to help tutor an all-region selection in Daniel Rahama during the 2022-23 season. Along with the all-region accolade, Rahama became Concord's first all-region performer in four years as he averaged a double-double for the season.
In his first season at CU, Howard helped lead the Mountain Lions to a spot in the MEC Tournament Quarterfinals. It marked the fifth time in six seasons that Concord has made it to at least the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament. Concord also had an All-MEC Tournament selection in Trey Brisco.Â

Howard came to Concord after a two-year stint as a graduate assistant for the men's basketball program at the University of Akron on head coach John Groce's staff. Overall, Howard spent five seasons affiliated with Akron as he served as a team manager for the Zips the previous three seasons.Â
Â
Under Groce, Howard assumed a larger role which his main responsibilities included assisting with opponent scouting, player development, academics, and day-to-day operations. Previously, Howard served as a manager and practice squad player for three seasons under head coach Keith Dambrot.
The Upper Sandusky, Ohio native took over a men's golf program and immediately guided the Mountain Lions to an MEC Championship in October 2019 as three players finished in the top five.Â
Â
Howard graduated magna cum laude with a political science degree from Akron in 2016 and completed his master of business administration (MBA) from the University in May 2019.
Â
Prior to his time at Akron, Howard was a three-year letterwinner on varsity basketball team and varsity golf team at Upper Sandusky High School. He graduated in June 2013.
