David Blake is in his first season as Concord's defensive coordinator and associate head coach.
Blake comes to Concord after serving as a defensive assistant working with cornerbacks and special teams coach at Kent State in 2023. Blake coached future NFL player DJ Miller and West Virginia native and All-MAC kicker Andrew Glass.
Prior to his brief stint at Kent State, Blake coached the offensive side of the ball as he was at Westminster College in Pennsylvania, coaching the quarterbacks and serving as the co-offensive coordinator in 2022.
In 2021, Blake was at Mercer County rival Bluefield State where he was the the associate head coach and defensive coordinator. In less than one year, Bluefield State recruited and started an entire team from scratch and brought football back to the college for the first time in over 40 years.
Blake's high-energy downhill attacking defense consisted primarily of freshmen, and as a unit, no player had ever taken an NCAA snap prior to the start of the season. His youthful group excelled, the defense was ranked near the top of several NCAA rankings, including the number-one ranked first-down defense, number-four pass efficiency defense, fifth-ranked passing touchdowns allowed and 16th in passing yards allowed.
Other stops for Blake include Auburn (2020), Rhodes College (2019) and Memphis (2016-18).
Blake has much familiarity with the Mountain East Conference after playing at West Liberty where he earned his a bachelor of science's degree. He finished his master's degree at Memphis. Blake is also a U.S. Navy veteran of nine years.
