DOWNFIELD DOM
Sophomore wide receiver Dom Collins had his first 100-yard game of the season in 41-38 loss to Charleston Thursday night. Collins set season highs in catches (seven) and yards (144) while securing his third receiving touchdown of the year. Collins is now top 25 in Division II and second in the MEC in receiving yards (316) after his performance against Charleston. Besides Collins, the only other pass catchers in the MEC with at one touchdown in every game this season are West Virginia Wesleyan's Amari Colon-Brown and Glenville State's Kyree Bunny. Additionally, Thursday was the fifth time in eight career games for Collins that he has gone over 100 yards receiving, including twice against Charleston and a 117-yard performance versus West Liberty last season.  

THREE'S COMPANY
The Mountain Lions continued to work three running back on a regular basis versus Charleston. Junior running back Greg Burrell rushed a career-best 16 times for 64 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore running back Jayden Williams touched the ball 12 times (10 carries, two receptions) while he scored his second touchdown of the year. Senior running back Maurice Jones scored for the second straight week with a first-half touchdown against UC. The three Concord running backs along with Collins have combined for eight rushing touchdowns this season which is more than halfway to last year's rushing score total of 13. Only West Liberty has scored more rushing touchdowns than Concord, 10-8, among MEC teams. Burrell (206), Williams (161) and Jones (81) rank sixth, 12^th and 19^th in the MEC in rushing, respectively, but as a unit Concord's running game is second in the MEC averaging 173 yards per game.

TIGHT FINISHES
CU played in its third straight one-possession game to start the season as Charleston scored with two seconds remaining in the heartbreaking defeat. The Maroon and Gray controlled the game throughout as it only trailed for a total of seven minutes, all in the second half. The last time the Mountain Lions played in three consecutive one-possession games was in third, fourth and fifth games of the 2022 season. If Saturday's game were to be a one-score margin, it would be the first time CU played in four straight one-possession games since the first four games of the 2012 season. Similarly, West Liberty has played in three one-possession games to start the year, and dating back to 2025 six of the last eight games for WLU have been decided by six points or less. 

ROAD WORK
Historically, the CU-WLU all-time series as late has favored the home team. Since the turn of the century, Concord has only won at West Liberty four times—2022, 2013, 2011 and 2005, posting a record of 4-8 at WLU since 2001. The Mountain Lions held home field last season with a 44-21 win in late September. CU outgained West Liberty 461-193 as the game was called early in the fourth quarter due to multiple thunderstorms in southern West Virginia. Collins scored twice to go with his 117 yards receiving. Junior wide receiver Que Moore finished with four catches for 86 yards and a touchdown. The Mountain Lion defense collected six tackles for loss, and intercepted two passes in the contest. The only four Concord players expected to take the field at WLU Saturday that played in the 2024 game are senior defensive back Elijah Copes, sophomore defensive lineman Jacorey Jackson, senior offensive lineman Aidan Parsons and senior linebacker Brodee Rice.

TALL TASK
The Mountain Lion defense will be charged with trying to slow the best running back in the MEC and one of best rushers in Division II. West Liberty's Hunter Patterson has run for a Division II-best 751 yards in four games while scoring a total of 12 touchdowns (nine rushing and three receiving). A season after rushing for 1,219 yards, Patterson is on pace to run for more than 2,000 yards in 2026. Concord will need to rebound from a game against Charleston where it allowed 300 rushing yards. Though CU is allowing 186 yards per game on the ground, the Mountain Lions have been one of the best teams at getting in the opponents' back field as they are averaging eight tackles for loss in three games. Senior defensive lineman Shambre Jackson has 5.5 tackles for loss, second in the MEC. Rice has tallied 3.5 TFLs while Jackson and senior defensive lineman Nick Mercer each have 3.0 TFLs.

SPECIAL TEAMS MATTER
With both Concord and West Liberty's offenses averaging more than 30 points per game, special teams could play a pivotal part in the scoring Saturday afternoon. Freshman kicker Christian Torres made a field goal for the third straight game against Charleston as he nailed a 49-yard field goal in the first half—it was the third longest field goal in program history, only behind a pair of 52-yard field goals by Andy Ellington during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Torres is just one of five kickers in Division II to attempt at least five field goals this season without a miss. With Collins returning punts, CU has the best punt return average in the MEC (16.8) which is also top 10 in Division II. WLU has the best kickoff return unit in the conference as it averages nearly 24 yards (23.8) on kick returns this season.

TRENCH WORK
Led by S. Jackson and Mercer, the Mountain Lions are tied with West Liberty for most sacks on the year as both defenses have eight. On the opposite side, WLU's offensive line has surrendered 14 sacks this year which are second most in the conference. Concord's offensive line of graduate student Antonio Smith (left tackle), sophomore Dale Greene (left guard), junior Chamber Eldridge (center), senior Bishop Madukafi (right guard) and sophomore Keaton Hunt (right tackle) with Parsons rotating in are tied for fewest sacks allowed in the MEC, only allowing graduate quarterback Devin Kargman to go down four times in three games. In last year's game between CU and West Liberty, the Maroon and Gray registered the only sack of the contest.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
4- Junior defensive back Ar'Terrian Godfrey secured his fourth career interception versus Charleston last time out.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
Under first-year head coach Chad Salisbury, who came to WLU after serving as the offensive coordinator at California (Pa.) for 17 seasons, West Liberty has already matched last year's win total. Concord did not see Patterson in last year's game as he missed the contest with injury. Kohl Meisman is slated to make his 10^th career start under center Saturday. Meisman has thrown for 578 yards and six touchdowns this season. Patterson is West Liberty's leading receiver with 16 catches for 181 yards to go with the three scores. Seamus Mahon is top five in the MEC with 28 tackles. The biggest pass rushing threat is Grant Neiswonger who has three sacks on defense.
