FROSTBURG, Md. – The Concord University volleyball team opened up the Mountain East Conference portion of the schedule with a straight-sets win over Frostburg State, 25-21, 25-16, 25-22, Friday night at Bobcat Arena.

The Mountain Lions (9-6, 1-0 MEC) had two less kills than FSU (3-8, 0-1), 36-34, but forced 25 errors by Frostburg State. Additionally, Concord hit 100 points higher than the Bobcats, owning a .196 to .095 advantage.

CU was didn't pull away in the first set until a 7-0 run gave the Mountain Lions a 22-18 edge. Junior right side Maddie Stull had three kills during the run while senior outside hitter Meg Williams provide a pair of kills.

Much like the first set, Concord got hot near the end of the second game. With the sides trading points, Concord rattled off the seven points to win the middle game comfortably, by nine points. Of the 7-0 run, only two points were earned by CU as Williams provided a kill, and sophomore middle hitter Addie Adkins and freshman middle hitter Alivia Stover combined for a block. The other five points came on FSU errors.

The closest set of the night was actually the set where Concord had the most breathing room early on. The Mountain Lions opened up a 12-4 lead as senior outside hitter Chloe Thompson capped the early spurt with a kill. Still leading 21-14 after a block from Adkins and sophomore right side Alexis Stack, Frostburg State scored seven of the next nine points to close to within 23-21. However, two kills in the next three points by Stover secured the sweep for CU.

Thompson had a team-best eight kills as she hit nearly .300 in the match. Stull and Williams went for six kills apiece. Senior middle hitter Jasmine Anderson tallied five kills while Stover had four important kills.

Senior setter Paige Richmond racked up 15 assists and eight kills. And senior libero Allie Davis had a team-best 11 digs.
