ATHENS, W.Va. - The Concord University men's soccer team took down Shawnee State, 2-1, behind a late game-winning goal in the 82^nd minute of a Mountain East Conference contest at Callaghan Stadium Sunday afternoon.
 
Concord (3-1-1, 2-1 MEC) defeated Shawnee State (2-3-1, 1-1 MEC) in the first ever meeting between the two teams.
 
For a second straight game, the Mountain Lions put together a dominant first half, holding Shawnee State without a shot in the entire 45-minute period while tallying eight shots on the offensive end.
 
CU broke through with a 34^th-minute goal from senior forward Dominique Malhomme. Junior defenseman Neko Worthy whipped in a beautiful cross to collect his first assist of the season and sophomore midfielder Koya Nakamura also nabbed his second assist of the year on the initial pass.
 
After the break, the Bears came out firing and playing with high intensity as they got in the goal column in the 60th minute on a set piece.
 
With all the momentum on the side of Shawnee State, Concord went ahead with a goal in the final 10 minute. A late-game substitute rose to the occasion as midfielder Mario Bedford perfectly timed a run in behind the Bears defense and tucked home his first career goal to win it for Concord. Worthy picked up another assist on the 82^nd-minute goal.
 
CU finished with 13 shots, six of which were put on net. Junior forward Lucas Costa came of the bench to lead the Mountain Lions in shots with five.  
 
Concord hits the road for a non-conference contest against Seton Hill at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
