ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team closed out the Concord Classic with a pair of sweeps of Elizabeth City State and Bluefield State to go a perfect 4-0 in its home tournament over the weekend.

Concord is over .500 for the first time this season with a record 7-6 after the undefeated weekend at the Carter Center.

Match 1: Concord 3 – Elizabeth City State (25-14, 25-17, 25-20)
Concord hit nearly .200 in the match while holding ECSU to an even hitting percent, 24 kills and 24 errors by the Vikings.

CU was not threatened in the first two sets as it opened up a 10-5 lead in the first set, and an 11-6 edge in the second set on its way to going up 2-0 in the match.

In the third set, the Mountain Lions were unable to shake the Vikings, although it did go up 14-10 after a kill by junior right side Maddie Stull. Elizabeth City State responded by grabbing a 17-16 edge before Concord went up by a point of its own, 20-19, and finished the match on a 5-1 run that was capped a block from senior middle hitter Jasmine Anderson and Stull.

Concord used a balanced offensive attack to overwhelm the Vikings as five players finished with at least nine kills, and no player took more than 25 swings in the contest. Senior outside hitter Chloe Thompson and sophomore middle hitter Addie Adkins both had nine kills.

Anderson and senior outside hitter Meg Williams contributed seven kills each while Stull finished with five kills.

Anderson and Stull combined for five assisted blocks in the contest. Senior libero Allie Davis threw in 19 digs to help pace the defense.

The offensive distribution was evenly balanced with senior setters Haley Sweeney (16) and Paige Richmond (15) both rolling up 15 or more assists.

Match 2: Concord 3 – Bluefield State 0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-18)
The Mountain Lions had to grind out the first set before easing their way past BSU in the second and third sets to complete their third sweep of the weekend.

The first set went back-and-forth before a 6-2 run from the Big Blues allowed them to gain a 22-18 edge. However, back-to-back kills from Thompson was followed by consecutive kills by Stull to draw Concord even at 22-22. The 6-0 spurt continued when BSU committed an attack error, and Anderson and Stull teamed up on a block.

With Concord on the brink of taking the first set, the Big Blues scored the next point, but Thompson's sixth kill of the opening set put CU up 1-0.

The Mountain Lions only trailed 1-0 in the second game as it scored 10 of the first 13 points of the set, and led by as many as 12 points before settling for the 10-point win.

The final set was tighter until Concord broke a 17-17 tie with seven straight points that included a kill each from Adkins and sophomore right side Alexis Stack who was also responsible for securing match point with her second kill in a seven-point span.

CU's 11 blocks were the second most in a match this season. Anderson tallied seven points with Adkins and Stull both adding four blocks. Adkins led Concord with nine kills while Thompson's strong first set pushed her to eight kills. Williams added seven kills.

Sweeney went for 19 assists while Richmond threw in 14 assists. Davis was the only CU player with double-digit digs (17).

The Mountain Lions have a rematch with Bluefield State 7:00 p.m. Wednesday inside the Carter Center in the final non-conference match of the year.
