CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Concord University women's golf team finished 11
th at the University of Charleston Invite that was contested at Edgewood Country Club Wednesday and Thursday.
The event was scheduled for 54 holes, but was cut down to 36 holes due to weather.
The Mountain Lions shot a combined team score of 663, firing 338 during the first round and 325 in the second round. The second round at Charleston was the lowest round for the Mountain Lions since the fall of 2023 at Pipestem State Park.
Both freshman
Riley Bush and sophomore
Kendra Lugo posted top-20 finishes with the pair tying for 19
th with scores of 154.
Lugo shot 79 in round one before improving by four strokes during the second round. Included in the highlights was Lugo finishing the back nine with birdies on two of the last three holes, birdying the par-5 16
th and 18
th holes. She added a birdie on the par-3, fourth hole during the final round. Bush carded an opening round 78 before shooting a 76 in the second round.
Bush got hot with the putter as she finished the back nine with three straight birdies in the final round. She also had consecutive birdies on the front nine in the second round with red numbers on the fifth and sixth holes.
Junior
Sara Matos Tamargo had a birdie in each round of play, carding scores of 89 and 85. She tied for 51
st in the 76-player field. Fellow junior
Alexandria Denny was six spots back with scores of 92 and 89 for a total of 181.
Sophomore
Reagan Friel notched scores of 99 and 98 while freshman
Bailee Thompson shot 100 and 101.
Charleston's Julia Cebula and Barton's Shelby Herbert tied for the medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 143.
UC edged Gannon as the team winner by three strokes, 598-601.
