Torres Voted MEC Special Teams Player of the Week

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Freshman kicker Christian Torres of the Concord University football team has been named the Mountain East Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
 
Making his collegiate debut in Concord's 41-35 season-opening victory over the Division I Davidson Wildcats, Torres was instrumental for the Mountain Lions.
 
Torres made both of his field goal attempts, from 26 and 23 yards respectively, in what were two crucial second-half field goals. These makes gave CU a 41-28 lead in the fourth quarter, giving the Mountain Lions the needed cushion to secure the win.
 
The Brock, Texas native was 3-of-4 on extra-point attempts and three of his four kickoffs went for touchbacks.
 
Joe Dailey of West Virginia State was named the MEC Offensive Player of the Week, and West Liberty's Neal Luca was pegged the MEC Defensive Player of the Week.
 
The Mountain Lions return to action this Saturday in the home opener against Bluefield State at 2:00 p.m. inside Callaghan Stadium.
