UTICA, Mich. – Former Concord pitcher
Kerry Collins has signed a professional contract in the United States Professional Baseball League (USPBL), an independent league in the Detroit Metro area.
Collins inked his contract with the Westside Woolly Mammoths who are leading the USPBL standings at 9-2 through 11 games this season. The Bluefield, West Virginia native will become part of the pitching staff as the Woolly Mammoths navigate a 45-game schedule that wraps up in September.
In two years at Concord, Collins made 36 appearances on the mound, starting seven games this season. Over 73.2 innings, Collins collected 60 strikeouts and went 4-5. In 2025, he was the top reliever for the Mountain Lions, appearing in a team-best 21 games. Collins tossed 35 innings last spring before becoming a starter on the hill during the 2026 Mountain East Conference slate. Prior to CU, Collins played at Bluefield State during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
The USPBL is aimed at 18-25-year-olds who either went undrafted out of college or have been released from minor league contracts. The league is in its 11
th year of existence. Fifty-two former USPBL players have gone on to sign contracts with MBL organizations.
Collins is the first Concord player to play professionally, for a major league organization or independent ball, since Will Guay played for the St. Louis Cardinals' minor league affiliates from 2019-21.
