Concord Defeated by Emory & Henry

ATHENS, W.Va. - The Concord University baseball team fell in their final midweek game of the season, 6-4, to Emory & Henry Tuesday afternoon at Anderson Field.

Despite a two-run home run by senior infielder Sam Stowe in the bottom of the ninth, Cu's four-run deficit in the top of the ninth was too much to overcome.

The Mountain Lions' offense got the scoring started in the bottom half of the second inning with freshman outfielder Lucas Cannon singling and stealing second base. Junior infielder Dawson Maynard followed it up, slicing a double to right center field and giving CU (16-22) a 1-0 lead.

The Wasps (12-28) responded in the top of the third inning, taking a 2-1 edge.

Freshman pitcher Rocco Fizzano recorded a scoreless fourth frame and got the first two outs of the fifth before freshman pitcher Brogan Dent closed the fifth with a one-pitch out to keep the game at 2-1.

E&H plated another run in the top of the sixth as the Concord offense stalled out.

In the bottom of the seventh, junior infielder Nick DiSanti brought a run on as fielder's choice as freshman outfielder Jared Lavergne scored after his hit earlier in the inning, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

Down 6-2 in the ninth, a one-out double by freshman outfielder Jared Lavergne set the table for Senior infielder Sam Stowe to hit a towering home run to right center field, his fourth homer of the year. Concord was unable to scratch across anymore

Cannon and Lavergne each tallied two hit games. Stowe led the way with two RBI.

Fizzano ( 0-1) was dealt the loss but tossed a very solid game. The righty went 4.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned), walking four and punching out four batters. Only one of the runs that the Mountain Lions allowed was earned.

Concord is back in action this weekend as they host a four-game series against West Virginia State at Anderson Field. The first game starts at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
