MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Concord University baseball team dropped the final game of a three-game series against Millersville Sunday afternoon at Cooper Park in non-conference action, losing 10-4.
CU (5-11) built a 3-1 lead after three innings, but a big inning by Millersville (11-4) in the fourth was the difference in the contest.
The Marauders got a run in the bottom of the first, though, Concord immediately responded with senior infielder
Sam Stowe scoring on an RBI groundout in the top of the second inning after he had led off the frame with a single.
The Mountain Lions grabbed the lead in the top of the third. After senior catcher
Kaden Swaim led off the inning with a double to left field, senior outfielder
Korbin Bostic stepped up two batters later and launched his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot to right field.
Sophomore pitcher
Kaden Varela-Payne picked up a pair of strikeouts in the bottom of the third to keep the two-run lead. However, Millersville went up 9-3 in the fourth inning.
Bostic raced home on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth inning to trim the margin to 9-4, but it was as close as CU would get the rest of the way.
Bostic accounted for one-third of the Concord hits as he finished 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Senior infielder
Tyson Burke and junior infielder
Nick DiSanti each had two hits.
Varela-Payne (2-2) was charged with the loss. He struck out six batters over 3.2 innings. The CU bullpen only allowed one run and a one hit over the final 4.1 innings.
The Mountain Lions begin Mountain East Conference play 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Frostburg State.
