ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team went 1-1 against West Virginia Wesleyan Sunday afternoon in a pair of Mountain East Conference games at the CU Softball Field, losing 8-4 before bouncing back with an 11-2 victory in the nightcap.
Concord is 16-12 overall and 6-4 in the MEC after Sunday's results. WVWC is 8-20 and 1-9 in the MEC.
Game 1: West Virginia Wesleyan 8 – Concord 4
A big inning by the Bobcats was too much for the Mountain Lions to overcome in the first game of the day.
Back-to-back RBI doubles by senior pitcher/infielder
Madison Hollis and freshman catcher/infielder
Hannah Niten pushed CU out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. However, the lead was short lived as Wesleyan scored six times in the top of the fourth inning.
Down four into the bottom of the fifth, Niten crushed her third home run of the spring, a solo shot to cut the margin to 6-3. Then, senior catcher
Kayla Sholter got another run back in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double that plated senior outfielder
Alina Giles.
Later in the inning, Concord brought the go-ahead run to the plate, but could not get any closer as the Bobcats went back up by four runs in the top of the seventh.
Niten was 3-for-3 in the game with a home run and two RBI. She finished a triple shy of the cycle and was on base in all four plate appearances.

Blake Jamerson and junior infielder
Kendall Morgan were both 1-for-3.
Hollis (9-5) allowed four earned runs over seven innings. She struck out one.
Game 2: Concord 11 – West Virginia Wesleyan 2
The Mountain Lions responded in game two by matching their season high in runs.
Concord and Wesleyan went to the bottom of the third inning tied at 2-2 before CU exploded for nine unanswered runs.
Three straight batters reached after three consecutive singles with one out. An infield single by Jamerson brought in sophomore utility
Kristy McCord. During the next at-bat, Concord executed a double steal to score Jamerson. The scoring continued when sophomore pitcher/outfielder
Reghan Hintz ripped a two-out double to center field to plate Giles.
Holding a 5-2 edge, Concord put up six runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Lacie Lewis for the first run of the inning before Jamerson steered a two-run double down the left field line. Freshman outfielder
Grace Dodson was responsible for the ninth run of the game on an RBI single. She came in to score on a single by Hintz and a subsequent error. And Hintz touched home on a second Wesleyan error.
In the top of the fifth, Hintz allowed a one-out single, but shutdown the Bobcats for the run-rule victory.
Five different Mountain Lions had two-hit games: Hintz, Jamerson, McCord, Morgan and Niten. Jamerson had a double and two RBI.
Hintz (6-7) scattered seven hits and two runs. She struck out one.
Concord ends its 10-game homestand with a 6-4 mark. CU travels to West Virginia State Friday afternoon.
