Djigo, Smith Tabbed December/January Chick-Fil-A Athletes of the Month

ATHENS, W.Va. – Junior forward Boubacar Djigo of the Concord University men's basketball team and senior forward Abbie Smith of the Concord University women's basketball team have been selected as the December/January Chick-Fil-A of Princeton Athletes of the Month, the CU Athletic Department released Thursday afternoon.

Djigo, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, averaged 15.7 points and 12.1 rebounds in 13 games during the two months while shooting 58.2 percent over 13 games during the two months. From three-point range, Djigo buried 12 three-pointers. Among the highlights for the Concord five man was a career-best 27 points on 9-for-13 shooting in a 101-75 win over Salem (Jan. 3). He opened Mountain East Conference play with a 20-point, 15-rebound performance at West Virginia State (Dec. 3). Djigo added 17 points and 15 rebounds in a 108-100 win at Wheeling (Jan. 14). Overall, Djigo had nine double-doubles in the 13-game stretch, pulling down at least 12 rebounds in eight games.

Smith, a native of Little Hocking, Ohio, had a similar dominance in the paint over a 14-game sample size. She averaged 17.3 points per game while pulling down 10.7 rebounds for the Mountain Lions. Smith shot 55.1 percent from the field and was 86.2 percent at the foul line. In the final game of January, at Frostburg State, Smith became the fourth player in program history with 1,000 career rebounds. Other key moments for Smith during December and January included a 22-point, 14-rebound night at West Virginia State (Dec. 3), a season-best 18 rebounds to go with 19 points at Frostburg State (Jan. 31) and 14 points and 16 rebounds in a road win at Wheeling (Jan. 14)—Concord's first win at WU since January 2019.
