OPENING TIP
The Concord University women's basketball team hosts West Virginia State in the regular-season home finale Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. inside the Carter Center in a Mountain East Conference clash.

LAST TIME OUT
The Mountain Lions fell in back-to-back games last week, falling to West Liberty 92-82 Sunday afternoon at the ASRC. Concord had a really nice first quarter, hopping out to a 17-10 lead. The Hilltoppers bounced back with a ferocious second quarter, outscoring Concord 27-16, and taking a slight 37-33 lead at halftime. CU cut the deficit to just two points entering the fourth quarter. West Liberty pulled away with a 31-point fourth quarter to close out the game. Concord had three double-digit scorers in the contest. Senior forward Abbie Smith led Concord with 24 points, sophomore guard Kenyah Stubbs finished with 21 points, and senior forward Olivia Ziolkowski had 15. The Mountain Lions had a good afternoon on the glass, winning the rebounding battle 45-39.

CENTERPIECE
Despite the loss, Smith put together another dazzling performance in her senior campaign. The forward shot 9-of-18 to give her 24 points. She paired that with 19 rebounds, narrowly missing her second 20-20 game of the campaign. Her first 20-20 game was just 10 days ago at Davis & Elkins. Smith tied her career high with five assists and collected a block as well. This was Smith's 54th career double-double, second most among active players in Division II. For Smith, this was her 13th 20-point game of the season and the 31st of her career. Looking at Smith's stats among the MEC, she ranks second in points per game (18.5), first in rebounds per game (10.8), tied for third in blocks per game (1.3), first in field goal percentage (56.3) and second in free throw percentage (85.3).

FIND THE STROKE
Concord did not hit a shot from beyond the arc against the Hilltoppers, going 0-for-10 from three-point range. On the contrary, West Liberty hit 10 shots from long range to power themselves to victory. Over their recent five game winning streak, the Mountain Lions went 33-for-91 (36.2 percent) on shooting three-point percentage. That clip is over four percent higher than the season average for Concord. Junior guard Alexis Frazee leads Concord in both three-point percentage (47.1) and three-point makes (41). If the season ended now, Frazee would be number one at CU for single-season three-point percentage. The record is currently held by Emily Boothe (2016-17) at 45.3 percent.

FROM THE STRIPE
The Mountain Lions have been consistently good from the free-throw line on the season. Against the Hilltoppers, CU went 20-of-25 from the free-throw line. They were led by a perfect 6-of-6 from Smith and 5-of-5 from Ziolkowski. Getting to the charity stripe bodes well for the Mountain Lions as they are 15-4 when shooting at least 70 percent from the line. On the season, Concord sits fourth in the MEC going 75.8 percent on foul shots. They rank third in the conference in free throws made with 385. Smith shoots at an 85.3 percent rate from the line and her and Stubbs are tied for second in the conference in free throws made with 116.

DOWN TO THE WIRE
All the way back in December, Concord squared off with West Virginia State in the Mountain East Conference opener. The Mountain Lions came away with an 80-74 road victory over the Yellow Jackets. CU was able to stifle West Virginia State's last offensive possession and pull away at the free-throw line to secure the win. Smith finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds, Stubbs had 17 points, six rebounds and five assists, and Ziolkowski notched 15 points and six boards. The Mountain Lions also got seven points from senior guard Kennedy Scales and six points from junior guard Kiley Smich. As a squad, CU shot 40 percent from the field and nailed eight triples.

LAST TIME IN ATHENS
The last time the Yellow Jackets came to Athens, they left with a 70-63 win in just the second game in conference play. Former Mountain Lion and current Yellow Jacket, Imani Hickman put up 15 points and 10 rebounds as she'll return to the Carter Center on Wednesday. Smith had 11 points and 13 rebounds. The game was played at a rapid pace with both teams combining for 61 turnovers and a staggering 38 steals. Despite the relatively low scores, both teams scored 40 points in the paint and got out in transition frequently.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

2 - Concord searches for second straight win against West Virginia State.

35 - Abbie Smith and Kennedy Scales will aim to win a 35th home game tomorrow night. They are 34-18 at home in their careers.

54 - Abbie Smith sits at 54 double-doubles, second most among active Division II players.

SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS
The Yellow Jackets are easily playing their best basketball of the season, entering Wednesday's matchup as winners of four straight contests. Hickman has been a big part of WVSU's lineup, averaging 12.5 points per game, seven rebounds and an MEC leading 1.6 blocks per game. Senior guard Baylee Goins leads the team with 13.5 points per game and will be a big focal point of their offense.
