Concord Loses to Nationally-Ranked West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Concord University men's basketball team dropped a 109-82 decision to nationally-ranked, number six West Liberty Sunday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference contest at the ASRC.

WLU (23-3, 18-1 MEC) ran out to a 19-6 lead through the first five-plus minutes of the game, and Concord (13-13, 9-9 MEC) still trailed by double digits, 37-21, at the nine-minute mark of the first half before mounting a charge.

CU ran off an 11-1 spurt to get within 38-32 at the 6:27 mark of the first half. Sophomore guard Brendan Hoffman started the run with an old-school, three-point play before a layup from junior forward Eldon Terry got the Mountain Lions within two possessions less than three minutes later.

The Maroon and Gray surge continued as they pulled within 40-36 of West Liberty after a bucket from sophomore guard Josiah Rickards with 4:06 remaining in the opening half.

However, CU was held to five points over the remainder of the half and trailed 56-41 at halftime.
In the second half, the Mountain Lions could only get as close as 13 points.

Junior forward Boubacar Djigo netted his team-best seventh 20-point game of the season with 22 points on 11-for-14 shooting. He just missed his 17th double-double as he grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Fellow junior forward Anfernee Hanna threw in 17 points as he went 8-for-9 at the foul line.

Hoffman tossed in 16 points off the bench while freshman guard Micah Young tallied 13 points in a reserve role.

Concord outrebounded the Hilltoppers 36-31 in the contest.

Offensively, CU shot 56.6 percent in the first half, but was held to 35.9 percent after halftime. For the game, the Mountain Lions shot 44.9 percent
