OPENING TIP
The Concord University women's basketball team is set to take a trip to face the Hilltoppers of West Liberty Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in a Mountain East Conference contest at the ASRC.

LAST TIME OUT
The Mountain Lions saw their five-game winning streak end with a 84-71 home defeat against Wheeling Wednesday night. Despite the loss, Concord's offense still played at a high level going 29-of-58 from the field for an even 50 percent. CU also made six of their 15 attempted three-pointers but it wasn't enough. The Mountain Lions finished the contest with four scorers in double figures. Senior forward Abbie Smith ended the game with 18 points, making eight of her 12 shots. Senior forward Olivia Ziolkowski tacked on 16 points. Sophomore guard Kenyah Stubbs put up 15 points along with five assists. Senior guard Kennedy Scales was the last scorer to reach double figures with 13 points, drilling three triples.

BIG Z
In the loss, Ziolkowski pieced together one of her best games in the Maroon and Gray. With 16 points on excellent efficiency (8-of-10), the Beckley, West Virginia native shined against Wheeling. Not only was her post work on display on offense, but Ziolkowski came away with seven rebounds, three steals and a block. The 16 points were her third-highest scoring performance of the season. Ziolkowski is Concord's third highest leading scorer, averaging 10.3 points per game and pairing it with 6.0 rebounds per game. Where Ziolkowski makes her biggest impact is on defense. She's tied for third in the MEC, averaging 1.3 blocks per game as Concord averages the third-most blocks in the conference (3.44).

GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS
Concord will look to rebound from the loss against Wheeling with a road trip to West Liberty. In the defeat, Wheeling shot 59.3 percent from the field, the highest percentage allowed by CU all season. It was an uncharacteristic performance from Concord's defense that was in impeccable form. On the season, Concord has not won a game in which its opponents have surpassed 80 or more points. On the contrary, the Mountain Lions have not lost a game when they hold their opponents to under 70 points. Another key stat for Concord is entering halftime with a lead. When CU leads at halftime, they hold a 13-1 record.

MIDDLE TWENTY
The Mountain Lions struggled in the second and third quarters against Wheeling, as they were outscored 41-25. Across their five-game winning streak, Concord outscored opponents 102-75 in the second quarter and 110-65 in the third quarter. This comes out to a +72 point differential for the Mountain Lions. That is a massive gap to accumulate in just five games and shows how important those minutes leading into and coming out of the halftime break are for Concord. CU has not lost a game in 2025-26 when it leads after three quarters, holding a 16-0 record this season.

OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION
In the first meeting with West Liberty, the game turned into a barn burner. Concord secured the 93-77 home win behind a career day from Stubbs. She finished with 32 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals in a cumulative performance. The Mountain Lions had five scorers in double figures with Smith (19), Ziolkowski (12), Scales (10), and sophomore guard Kiley Smich (10) joining the fray. As a unit, CU shot 47.4 percent and scored a staggering season-high 58 points in the paint. On the opposite end, Concord rejected nine Hilltopper shots which were a season high for Concord. What kept West Liberty in the game was the performance of redshirt sophomore guard Olivia Baker. Baker went a perfect 9-for-9 from the field including eight makes from downtown.

VISITING THE HILLTOP
Concord's last trip to West Liberty saw CU come away with a narrow 68-65 victory. Smith notched a double-double consisting of 14 points and 13 rebounds. The game saw 14 lead changes and 10 ties and came down to a missed three-pointer from WLU to try and send the game to overtime. Similarly to their game the first game this season, the Mountain Lions scored 50 of their 68 points in the paint. CU enters the matchup with three straight victories over West Liberty, the longest winning streak versus WLU since five straight victories from 2020-22.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

3 - Number of remaining regular season games for CU.

18 - The Mountain Lions search for their 18th win, which would be the most under Coach Southcott.

19 - Games in a row that Abbie Smith has scored at least 10 points.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
The Hilltoppers have had a tough season, sitting at 8-17 (5-13 MEC) but have some real offensive power. Senior guard Anna Lucarelli does it all for the Hilltoppers, averaging 15.5 points per game, 6.4 rebounds per game and 4.0 assists per game. On the low block, redshirt freshman Reagan Vinskovich has been crucial for West Liberty in her 13 games played. The forward is averaging 18.4 points per game on 55.6 percent from the field. Last time out, WLU fell just short of upsetting Glenville State in a 102-95 defeat.
