Concord Comes Up Short in MEC Quarterfinals Against Point Park

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team fell in Mountain East Conference Quarterfinals to Point Park, 2-1, Sunday night at Callaghan Stadium.

Concord (12-4-2) was forced to chase the game for nearly 70 minutes after Point Park (7-8-3) scored in the 21st. Despite going down 2-0 early in the second, CU surged before ultimately coming up short.

Point Park were off and running, striking first in the 21st minute, after the Mountain Lions could not clear a ball away along the goal line.

While Concord did have five shots in the first 45 minutes, the Maroon and Gray were unable to put a shot on goal in the first half.

In the second half, the Pioneers added another goal with a sublime finish in the 65th minute to put the Mountain Lions up against it.

Freshman midfielder Josiah Ochoa drew Concord closer with an 85th minute goal, assisted by senior midfielder Ezekiel Oswald.

Despite some great efforts, including another close call from Ochoa, the Mountain Lions couldn't overcome the deficit.

Concord held a 14-8 advantage in the shot category, but PPU scored the only two shots it put on goal.

Ochoa had five shots for the game while freshman defender Khotatso Balepile and junior forward Lucas Costa each had two.

The Mountain Lions took all seven corners in the contest.

Concord will now have to wait for its NCAA Tournament fate with the selection show Monday, November 9 at 6:30 p.m. CU was ranked fourth in Super Region I in the latest NPI ratings which determine the selections for the national postseason.
