Concord Nets Four Goals in Road Win at West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team cruised to a 4-2 win over West Liberty in a Mountain East Conference game at the West Family Athletic Complex Wednesday night.

CU (3-7-2, 3-5-2 MEC) scored twice in each half, and limited West Liberty (2-9-1, 2-8 MEC) to goals when the Mountain Lions had a three-goal advantage in each instance.

Concord survived a scare in the ninth minute when the Hilltoppers rang a shot off the crossbar before opening the scoring in the 26th minute. Junior defender Ella Rowell rolled a pass through the attacking area, and sophomore defender Molly Watters curled in her fifth goal of the season from 25 yards away.

Ten minutes later was perhaps CU's most impressive tally of the night. Sophomore midfielder Daisy Cook laid a pass off to junior forward Ailsa Swinburne who ripped a shot to the top left corner from outside 25 yards for her first goal of 2026.

The lead grew to 3-0 in the 51st minute after Cook notched her second assist of the night on the first career goal in the Maroon and Gray for sophomore midfielder Alex Kelly.

West Liberty was able to stop the CU onslaught with a goal in the 65th minute, but Cook and the Mountain Lions had an answer in the 78th minute. Rowell smashed a shot off the crossbar, and Cook was waiting outside the six-yard box on the rebound to head in her team-best sixth of the year.

WLU scored in the 87th minute, but Concord's lead held up in the victory.

The Mountain Lions held a 12-8 advantage in total shots with nine coming on target. The only CU player with multiple shots was junior midfielder Stephanie Tovar with three.

Junior goalkeeper Maddie Loughborough registered four saves.

Concord begins a two-game homestand 1:00 p.m. Sunday against nationally-ranked Fairmont State at Callaghan Stadium.
