Concord Falters at Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Concord University men's basketball team was defeated 94-61 by Frostburg State Saturday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game at Bobcat Arena.

Junior forward Anfernee Hanna got CU (10-8, 7-5 MEC) off and running as he scored the first seven points of the game for the Mountain Lions. Down 8-7 after Hanna's layup, Concord watched FSU (11-9, 7-6 MEC) go on an 8-0 run to open up a 16-7 advantage.

Junior guard Khamani Wertz hit a three-pointer on the next Concord possession to get the deficit back to six points. However, the Bobcats took off with a 16-6 run that gave them a 32-16 edge just before the midway point of the first half.

CU trailed 51-29 at halftime.

The Maroon and Gray worked the margin back to 17 points, 60-43, after a pair of free throws from sophomore guard Josiah Rickards, but it was as close as Concord would get the rest of the way.

Paced by his early outburst, Hanna scored 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting. Freshman guard Micah Young threw in 10 points. Junior forward Boubacar Djigo had six points and 13 rebounds. Senior guard Savier McCall pulled down a career-best seven rebounds.

Concord has a quick turnaround when it travels to face Mercer County rival Bluefield State 7:00 p.m. Monday.
