BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Freshman guard Micah Young of the Concord University men's basketball team has been pegged as the Mountain East Conference Player of the Week, presented by The Health Plan, the league office released Monday afternoon.

The MEC Player of the Week was shared between Young and Frostburg State's Trey Simmons this week.

Young, a native of Westerville, Ohio native, had an outstanding week for the Mountain Lions on the hardwood. He averaged 31 points and six rebounds while shooting 52.4 percent (22-for-42) from the field and 80 percent (12-for-15) at the foul line. He also made six three-pointers and was 40 percent (6-for-15) from beyond the arc.

To start the week, Young netted a career-high 39 points in a 108-100 win at Wheeling. It was Young's first career start. He went 14-for-23 from the floor that included four three-pointers. He was also 7-for-9 at the foul line, and added a career-best seven rebounds. The 39 points were the most by a Mountain Lion this season, and the second most in a game in the MEC.

He returned to the Carter Center Saturday afternoon to score a game-best 23 points against nationally-ranked West Liberty. Young also collected five rebounds in the contest.

Concord returns to action 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when CU travels to Charleston for an MEC showdown.
