OPENING TIP
The Concord University women's basketball team returns to the Carter Center for a Saturday affair with West Liberty at 2:00 p.m. in a Mountain East Conference game.

LAST TIME OUT
The Mountain Lions are coming off of a great performance that saw them take down Wheeling by a score of 66-54. With the win, Concord picked up its first win at Wheeling since the 2018-19 season. Sophomore guard Kenyah Stubbs led Concord in scoring with 19 points on an efficient 8-of-14 from the field. Stubbs has been the leading scorer in back-to-back games for Concord and four total times this season. Senior forward Abbie Smith notched her ninth double-double of 2025-26 with 14 points and a season-high 16 rebounds. Concord's defense was the star of the show, holding Wheeling to just 54 points in the contest. The 28.8 percent shooting for Wheeling was the lowest for a CU opponent this year.

FAB FIVE
Concord's starting five was crucial in the win at Wheeling. They accounted for 61 of Concord's 66 total points. Stubbs' 19 not only led CU, but were a game high. The Hanford, California native has upped her scoring output to 14.9 points per game which ranks eighth amongst the Mountain East Conference. Smith scored an efficient 14 points, going 4-of-7 from the field and 6-for-8 from the foul line. Senior guard Kennedy Scales dropped in a season-high 13 points, shooting 6-of-10 from the floor. Junior guard Kiley Smich made an impact in many facets. Smich put up nine points, seven rebounds, one assist, and a steal. Senior forward Olivia Ziolkowski added six points to the mix in her 21 minutes played.

MAKING LIFE HARD
The Mountain Lion defense played one of their best games of the season against Wheeling, holding the Cardinals to 54 points. It was the second lowest amount that Concord has given up all season. It gets even more impressive from there, CU held Wheeling to just 28.8 percent from the field and a paltry 4-for-26 from beyond the arc (15.4 percent). This was the lowest opponent field goal percentage recorded this season for Concord. Concord forced just six turnovers in the contest, but their defensive effort forced difficult shot after difficult shot. This defense continues to climb the MEC rankings. The Mountain Lions are second in opponent field goal percentage (39.9 percent), second in opponent three-point percentage (26.3 percent), and sixth in scoring defense (70.9 points per game allowed).

SECURE THE BOARDS
Concord continues to get better and better on the glass, having its best rebounding performance of the year against Wheeling. The Mountain Lions secured 54 rebounds as a unit, tied for fifth most in an MEC game this season. Wheeling only corralled 30 boards, creating a huge +24 rebounding margin for Concord on the glass. Smith led the way for Concord with her 16-rebound game, six of which came on the offensive end. While Smith was the only Mountain Lion that eclipsed 10 boards, three more players secured at least five. Smich has been a really solid rebounder for Concord, pulling down seven against the Cardinals and averaging 4.5 rebounds a game. Her guard partner, Stubbs secured five rebounds herself. She's averaging 3.9 rebounds per game which ranks them third and fourth respectively for Concord. Ziolkowski racked up seven rebounds in the contest, which ties her career high. Off the bench, freshman guard Nasiya Smith, junior guard Alexis Frazee, and freshman guard Cadence Blackburn secured 10 combined rebounds to give Concord a big boost.

TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE
West Liberty will enter the Carter Center allowing 77.5 points per game and opponents are shooting 44.8 percent against the Hilltoppers this season. Both of those rank ninth among MEC teams. Concord's offense can look to exploit this with three scorers averaging double figures (Smith, Stubbs, and Ziolkowski) and with a top five offense in the conference. The Mountain Lions rank fourth in scoring offense (75 ppg), fourth in field-goal percentage (43.1), fourth in three-point percentage (31.3), and fourth in free-throw percentage (74.6). Concord should also have an edge in terms of rebounding. They enter averaging 40.4 rebounds per game to the Hilltoppers 31.9.

PROTECT THIS HOUSE
Concord has been really solid at home this season, holding a 6-2 record at the Carter Center this year. The Mountain Lions have taken back-to-back games against West Liberty in Athens, dating back to the 2023-24 season. Two seasons ago, Smith put up 14 points and four rebounds in 15 minutes played. In last year's home meeting, Smith finished with a 13 point and 10 rebound double-double. On the defensive end, she came away with two blocks and a steal. Scales tacked on four points off the bench.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

6 - Concord has shot over 40 percent from the field in six straight games, posting a 4-2 record over that stretch.

10.3 - Abbie Smith is averaging 10.3 rebounds per game. This is first in the MEC and she's the only player above 10.

78.4 - Over the last five games, Concord is shooting 78.4 percent on free throws.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
West Liberty enters Saturday's matchup with a 5-9 record (2-5 MEC) but are coming off a hard-fought defeat against the MEC's top team, Glenville State. In that game, redshirt freshman forward Reagan Vinskovich exploded for 28 ponts and 11 rebounds in just 17 minutes played off the bench. On the season, senior guard Anna Lucarelli has led West Liberty. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native averages 15.8 points per game, 6.6 rebounds per game, and 3.6 assists per game. The Hilltoppers will look to end a three-game skid against the Mountain Lions.
