The Concord University women's basketball team travels to Wheeling for a matchup with the Cardinals Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in a Mountain East Conference game.

LAST TIME OUT
The Mountain Lions took care of business against Davis & Elkins, securing an 85-64 victory over the Senators. The 21-point margin of victory was the second highest of the season for CU. In the win, Concord had five scorers in double figures with sophomore guard Kenyah Stubbs topping the charts with 17. Junior guard Alexis Frazee, senior guard Kennedy Scales, and senior forward Olivia Ziolkowski each finished with 12 points. Senior forward Abbie Smith posted 10 points to aid in the Mountain Lion win. Ziolkowski added on six rebounds, three steals, and a block to complete her impressive stat line. Freshman guard Nasiya Smith tallied career highs with nine points and nine rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench. 

CHASING HISTORY
Abbie Smith is still climbing her way up the Concord leaderboards. Smith currently ranks eighth all-time in points at Concord with an astounding 1,616 points. Smith has been very efficient while doing putting up all those points, making 610 field goals (fifth CU), attempting 1,134 field goals (seventh), for a field-goal percentage of 53.7 percent (second). On the glass, Smith is fourth all-time in Mountain Lion history with 952 rebounds, putting her just 48 away from 1,000 career rebounds. Not only does she stack up well in Concord's record book, here's how she ranks highly among all active Division II women's basketball players. Her 1,616 points are ninth,  her47 double-doubles are second. The 394 free throws Smith has made are tied for second and the 952 rebounds she has collected are fourth.

SHARING THE WEALTH
Concord finished Saturday's game with 20 assists, its second highest mark of the season and is also tied for 11th in the conference for most in a game this season. The Mountain Lions had 10 players record at least one assist in the contest, with Scales topping the list with four. Stubbs had three in the win and is leading Concord on the season with an average of 3.0 per game. This game marks six straight in which Concord has finished with at least 10 assists as a team. On the season, CU averages 13.5 assists per game which ranks fourth in the MEC. Concord is fifth in assist to turnover ration in the conference with a ratio of 0.77.

CRASH THE GLASS
In the win over Davis & Elkins, Concord had its best rebounding performance of the season. The Mountain Lions corralled a season-high 47 boards and had their highest rebounding margin of the year at +11. On the season, Abbie Smith leads Concord with an average of 9.9 rebounds per game which is second most in the conference. Against D&E, she managed five which shows how the rest of the squad stepped up to own the glass. The Mountain Lions had five players with at least five rebounds. N. Smith led the way with nine off the bench. Ziolkowski and junior guard Kiley Smich followed with six rebounds each. A. Smith and Stubbs each secured five rebounds in the win. Concord also had 14 offensive rebounds, which is the second most the Maroon and Gray has had this season. It led to 19 second-chance points, the most in 2025-26 for CU.

CLAMPED
Concord's defense made life very difficult for Davis & Elkins on Saturday. The Senators shot just 36.5 percent from the field and  27.8 percent from beyond the arc. In the first half, Concord held D&E to just 29.0 percent shooting and 22 points. Ziolkowski served as the defensive anchor for the Mountain Lions, rejecting one shot and coming away with three steals. N. Smith set a new career-high with two steals, and Smich nabbed one as well. In the MEC, Concord has the fifth-best scoring defense in the league, allowing 72.1 points per game. The Mountain Lions allow a shooting percentage of 40.7 percent which is tied for the second lowest in the conference. They also rank second with an opponent three-point percentage of 27.6.

NARROW DEFEATS
A season ago, Concord came up empty-handed in its two games against the Wheeling Cardinals. The meeting in Wheeling last year saw the Cardinals take a 77-65 win over Concord. The Cardinals had four scorers in double-figures and shot 56.9 percent as a team. A. Smith finished with 10 points and five rebounds in the loss. The game in Athens went to overtime with Wheeling coming away with a 75-67 win. A. Smith had a monster game consisting of 23 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

5 - In the win against D&E, Concord had five scorers in double figures for the first time since February 12, 2025 in a road win over West Virginia Wesleyan.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Wheeling enters Wednesday's matchup with a 7-7 record (3-4 MEC), and are coming off an impressive win on the road at Frostburg State. Trailing by one point entering the fourth quarter, the Cardinals held FSU to just seven points the rest of the way. Senior guard Kenzie Dalton leads Wheeling as one of the conference's finest players, ranking top 10 in points (sixth), assists (first), steals (first), field-goal percentage (fifth), and free-throw percentage (fourth).
