BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - Junior outside hitter Chloe Thompson of the Concord University volleyball team has been named Mountain East Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week, presented by The Health Plan, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Thompson shares the award with Fairmont State's Joey Borelle.
She helped the Mountain Lions get off to a perfect start to the season as they swept through the Virginia State Classic, opening 4-0 for the second time in three seasons.
CU swept three of its four matches on the weekend with their fourth win coming against Shepherd, who won 24 matches a season ago.
Thompson tallied two double-doubles during the weekend. She went for 13 kills and 10 digs versus Bloomsburg, and in the five-setter against Shepherd she notched 14 kills and 16 digs.
Thompson averaged 3.46 kills per set and 3.00 digs per set, also hitting .197 across the weekend competition. She ranks second in the MEC in kills per set and 10th in digs per set after four matches.
Fairmont State's Josie Skinn was named the MEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Concord is back in action this weekend, participating in the Cavalier Classic hosted by UVa.-Wise. CU takes on King at noon on Friday and then UVa.-Wise at 2:00 p.m.
