Concord Edges Frostburg State for Road Win, 2-1

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Concord University men's soccer team held off Frostburg State for a 2-1 win Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium in the first Mountain East Conference game of the season for both teams.

Senior midfielder Malher Santi Possu's 53rd-minute goal proved to the difference as CU (2-0, 1-0 MEC) had to play down a man for the final 33 minutes of the game.

On Santi Possu's goal, junior midfielder Reese Joshua-McCarthy swept a pass into the middle of the 18-yard box, and Santi Possu half volleyed a shot to the left side of the goal—his fourth score in the first two games of the season.

Over the final 24 minutes of the game, Frostburg State (0-1, 0-1 MEC) peppered the goal with seven shots, but only one was on target. Senior goalkeeper Miguel Oliveria made one of his two saves in the game in the final two minutes to preserve the one-goal victory.

The Mountain Lions took their first lead in the 26th minute after FSU was unable to get a clearance out of Concord's attacking third. Senior forward Richard Henry controlled the loose ball, and drove into the 18-yard box where he chipped in his second goal of the season.

Frostburg State answered late in the first half as it converted on a penalty kick in the 44th minute.

The Bobcats outshot CU 13-10 in the game, but only three shots were on goal. Concord had four shots on goal in the contest. Both of Henry's shots were on frame. Joshua-McCarthy notched two shots in the game. Henry, junior forward Dominique Malhomme and Santi Possu accounted for Concord's shots on goal.

CU plays its first home game of the season when it welcomes Point Park for an MEC game 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Callaghan Stadium.
