Concord Falls to Nationally-Ranked Gannon

ATHENS, W.Va. - The Concord University women's soccer team were defeated by the 10th-ranked Gannon Golden Knights 5-1 at Callaghan Stadium on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference contest.

Gannon (2-0) scored in the first five minutes of the game off one of its seven corners in the game.

Concord (0-2) hung around for the next 15 minutes, but were unable to equalize before Gannon doubled the deficit.

The rest of the first half saw the Golden Knights score two more times as GU scored in the 31st and 42nd minutes.

The first half ended with Gannon on top, 4-0.

The second half started much better for the Mountain Lions as the offense started gaining some momentum. This was capped off by a goal from sophomore midfielder Tiana Campbell on a corner kick, her first of 2025. Freshman midfielder Molly Watters was credited with the assist as Concord cut into the Gannon lead.

The goal came in the 60th minute before Gannon restored a four-goal edge in the 77th minute.

Gannon heavily controlled the pace of play, outshooting CU 22-4. Campbell, freshman forward Alana Ferguson and junior defender Katie Garratt all recorded shots on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Gabby Griffith made five saves in the first half before sophomore goalkeeper Isabelle Melton was between the posts in the second half.

Concord continues the home stretch and open Mountain East Conference play next Saturday, September 13th against West Virginia Wesleyan at 1:00 PM.
