MEN'S RACE PREVIEW
Saturday will be the first time in program history that Concord races at Catawba College. And it will be the first time since the spring 2021 season that CU begins the year with an 8,000-meter race. The stiffest competition for the Mountain Lions will be Catawba and Lincoln Memorial, who like Concord, is ranked in the preseason edition of the USTFCCCA Regional Poll. CU was fifth in the Atlantic Region while Lincoln Memorial checked in at eighth in the Southeast Region. Host Catawba is fifth in the Southeast Regional Poll.
Concord returns five of its top seven runners from last year's Atlantic Regional Championship squad: junior
Braden Ward, junior
Bramley Childress, senior
Alex Irvin and juniors
Andrew Tickle and
AJ Skeens.
WOMEN'S RACE PREVIEW
The Mountain Lion women have not opened up the season with a 5,000-meter race since the 2014 season at James Madison. CU goes up against two regionally-ranked teams in Catawba (second) and Lincoln Memorial (fourth) who are both among the top five in the Southeast Region.
Like the men's squad, Concord returns five of its top seven runners from last season. Senior
Katy Walkup headlines the returners along with sophomore Katy Kelly and junior
Sara Turner. Other top returners include juniors
Abbey Londeree and
Charlotte McGinnis.
