MIGHTY MEG
Meg Williams returns for the Mountain Lions after yet another incredible season in the Maroon and Gray. Coming off a season that saw her make the All-Mountain East Conference First Team, she racked up 382 kills and placed top ten in the MEC in kills per set (3.18). In her third season, she'll aim to lead Concord to a third straight winning record.
FINISHING STRONG
Concord got off to a slow start in 2024, dropping their first six games out of the gate. After that rough stretch, the Mountain Lions completely turned it around. CU won 17 of their last 27 matches, including five of their last seven games.
STACKING SUCCESS
Concord volleyball has increased their win total three straight seasons. From seven in 2022, to 16 in 2023, and up to seventeen in 2024. Seventeen is the most wins in a season since 2016, and the team had one of their best conference seasons in program history, winning nine MEC games, their most since 1992. The 2024 squad made the MEC semifinals for the first time since 1992, where they fell to eventual MEC Champion, West Virginia State. The success has been led by a strong group of juniors, that not only includes Williams, but All-MEC selections from 2024, Allie Davis (second team) and Chloe Thompson (honorable mention). Paige Richmond has already surpassed 1,000 career assists.
HOME SWEET HOME
The Carter Center was nearly impenetrable from other programs as the Mountain Lions posted an astounding 11-1 record at home. That was good for their highest home winning percentage in program history.
YOUNG GUNS
Concord volleyball enters the 2025 campaign with zero seniors on the roster. They have not been shy getting younger players involved in previous seasons, and will look to do the same to build on their recent successes. The team added ten new freshmen who will don the maroon and gray for the first time at the Virginia State Invite.
SCOUTING THE VIRGINIA STATE TROJANS
Coming off one of their best seasons in the past decade, the Virginia State Trojans return 13 players from last season. This includes three All-Conference selections, Amaya Cooper,
Anya McKinley, and
Gracie Darville. However, they had to find a new head coach to take over the reins from
Amanda Walker.
Kaitlyn Scroggins was announced as her replacement in July, and she will look to guide the Trojans to their first CIAA Championship in program history. Last season they won the CIAA Northern Division Title and made the CIAA Tournament Semifinals for the first time since 2019.
SCOUTING THE BLOOMSBURG HUSKIES
Bloomsburg is predicted to finish fourth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's East Division. After a 9-18 record in 2024, the Huskies bring back a pair of highly talented seniors. Marlee Johnson returns after a record-breaking campaign that saw her finish with 329 kills, the new single-season record for Bloomsburg.
Allison Saalfrank joins her as a defensive specialist with 100 career aces over her career. She needs just two aces to become the program leader for her career.
SCOUTING THE BOWIE STATE BULLDOGS
Bowie State returns a whopping 17 players to their squad that finished 10-20 a season ago. Two of these players were selected to the Preseason All-CIAA Team, Nina Edwards and
Nicole Taylor. Edwards led the Bulldogs in kills per set (2.25) and hitting percentage (.321), while Taylor finished second on the team in kills per set (1.98).
SCOUTING THE SHEPHERD RAMS
Shepherd is pegged as the Preseason favorite to win the PSAC East. Following up a fantastic 24-6 season and an undefeated conference record of 14-0 will be difficult, but the Rams have been a perennial volleyball force in the region. They return two players selected to the 2024 All-PSAC First Team, Rylee Lenz and
Sophia Ryan.
