AHEAD OF SCHEDULEÂ
Concord volleyball is well ahead of schedule when looking back at its winning pace in 2024. With their 12th win on the horizon this season, a year ago the Mountain Lion didn't pick up their 12th win until October 23rd which was the 23rd match of the season. CU needs just six more wins to tie their total from 2024 and are making great headway.
REWRITING HISTORY
The next two matches for the Mountain Lions have been historically challenging. First for the Yellow Jackets, as they lead the all-time series 29-24. West Virginia State has scored nine straight 3-0 victories over Concord and the Maroon and Gray haven't scored a victory against them since 2017.Â
GOING THE DISTANCE
In 50 matches against Charleston, Concord has picked up just two wins with one of them coming a year ago in a five-set thriller in Athens. In the signature victory, junior outside hitter Meg Williams notched a double-double with 15 kills and 16 digs and fellow junior outside hitter Chloe Thompson picked up 12 kills. Junior setter Paige Richmond found her teammates for 33 assists, three shy of her career high.
DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE
The Mountain Lions have been able to shut down opposing offenses, showcasing their abilities as one of the best units in the conference. CU ranks first in the MEC, limiting opponent hitting percentage to just .134. They also rank top three in opponent assists per set (10.63), opponent kills per set (10.95), and opponent service aces per set (1.28). The defense has been keyed by the block where CU averages 2.26 per set, second in the MEC. Individually, junior middle hitter Jasmine Anderson is fourth in the conference in blocks per set (1.14) and freshman middle hitter Addison Adkins is fifth in the MEC (1.03). Â
SCOUTING THE WEST VIRGINIA STATE YELLOW JACKETS
West Virginia State had one of their most successful seasons in program history a season ago, winning the MEC Tournament for the first time in its history. WVSU advanced to the NCAA Atlantic Regional Semifinal, where it fell to the first seeded Gannon Golden Knights. In 2025, West Virginia State is off to a 5-7 start and even dropped their first conference game to Wheeling. The Yellow Jackets saw lots of turnover from their roster a season ago as all six of their All-MEC selections do not return.
SCOUTING THE CHARLESTON GOLDEN EAGLES
Charleston wrapped up another good season as they finished 25-8 a season ago, narrowly missing the NCAA Tournament. To start 2025, they are 8-7 and picked up a win in its first conference game over West Liberty. The Golden Eagles were predicted to finish first in the MEC South in the preseason poll as they return seven seniors from a year ago, including All-MEC first team selection, Kate Strong.Â
