ATHENS, W.Va. - The Concord University men's soccer team took down Davis & Elkins 2-1 in a Mountain East Conference slugfest at Callaghan Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Playing up a man from the 55
th minute, CU (6-2, 5-2 MEC) used a goal in the 84
th minute to defeat the Senators (2-2-3, 2-1-3 MEC).

With the score tied at 1-1, senior midfielder
Malher Santi Possu struck for his MEC-leading fifth goal of the season on a free kick just a couple yards outside the penalty area in the 84
th minute. Just moments before, Possu was fouled 20 yards from the goal.

With the man advantage, Concord's offense kicked into gear as graduate senior midfielder
Raheem Baptiste rifled home the opening goal in the 60th minute.

At a disadvantage, the Senators found the equalizer in the 71
st minute off a corner kick. The pressure shifted right back to the Mountain Lions as they needed another goal to secure the win.

The first 25 minutes saw limited offense as neither team could sustain consistent possession. Overall, the game lacked chances in the final third as Concord (6-2, 5-2 MEC) registered one shot on goal in the first half.

Senior goalkeeper
Nathan Scargill was called into action for the first time in the 29th minute, saving a near post header. Scargill made a second first-half save in the 34
th minute to keep the game scoreless at the break.

Possu led the way with five shots and Scargill tallied four saves in another great performance to take his scoreless streak over 200 minutes. Five other players accounted for Concord's shots in the contest as CU edged Davis & Elkins, 10-9, in total shots. Senior midfielder
