BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team defeated Salem 3-1 Sunday afternoon in a non-conference contest at the Bridge Sports Complex.
Salem (1-4-5) got an own goal in the first 15 minutes in the game, but CU (7-2) responded with two goals over a four-minute span in the first half to lead at halftime.
Senior midfielder
Malher Santi Possu was taken down in the penalty area in the 33
rd minute, then stepped up to bury the penalty attempt for his sixth goal of the year. In the 37
th minute, a ball was played through the six-yard box. After being deflected, senior midfielder
Mateo Rodriguez connected for his first career goal at Concord.
With the score still 2-1 in the 60
th minute, senior midfielder
Darian Bradshaw stopped a Salem shot in the six-yard box to keep the one-goal margin.
The Mountain Lions got the insurance goal they were looking for in the 68
th minute as a ball from a throw-in by Santi Possu landed at the feet of senior defender
Erik Lotysz who scored for the second time in three games. It was Lotysz's second career goal.
CU outshot the Tigers 11-7 in the contest. Both teams pushed five shots on target. Senior goalkeeper
Nathan Scargill made four saves while getting help from Bradshaw early in the second half.
Four different Mountain Lions took two shots in the game.
Concord returns to Callaghan Stadium to begin a two-game homestand, starting 4:00 p.m. Wheeling Wednesday versus Wheeling.
