HISTORIC START
Concord volleyball is off to its best start in program history, sitting at a perfect 7-0. In their seven victories, the Mountain Lions have been dominant, racking up four 3-0 sweeps. They are also a perfect 2-0 in five-set matches to start the season, showing they can still be successful in longer matches. The set difference on the entire season is 21-5 in favor of CU.
DIGGIN' DAVIS
Junior libero Allie Davis had an outstanding Cavalier Classic, picking up 71 digs across the three matches. She set her career high in the 3-1 victory over King, notching 33 digs. She has boosted her digs per set up to 5.48 after a great weekend that saw her named the Mountain East Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
OUTSIDE HITTING PROWESS
Junior outside hitters Chloe Thompson and Meg Williams are off to very similar starts to the season. Both players have picked up 76 kills a piece and they both hit over .175. They both received All-MEC honors a season ago and are on track to do that again in 2025.
CONCORD CLASSIC HISTORY
Concord found a ton of success a season ago in the Concord Classic, going 4-0 across the tournament on its home court. The tournament kicks off home matches for the Mountain Lions, a place they were dominant a season ago. They posted a fantastic 11-1 home record and will look to continue that success in 2025. Williams was named to the Concord Classic All-Tournament team a season ago.
RIVALRY RENEWED
The only repeat opponent from last year's Concord Classic will be Bluefield State. CU swept two matches from BSU last year, including a 3-0 win in the Concord Classic. Williams picked up a double-double, finishing the match with 11 kills and 16 digs. Thompson chipped in eight kills, Davis added 20 digs and junior setter
Paige Richmond notched 18 assists.
SCOUTING THE KENTUCKY STATE THOROBREDS
Kentucky State's volleyball program has only played in three matches thus far in 2025, dropping all of them. Entering their second season under head coach Keith Jones, the Thorobreds will look to continue improving. A season ago, they went 9-14 with all of their wins coming in conference play. For the Thorobreds, a lot of their success will rest on the shoulders of freshman outside hitter Cydne Clayton and graduate student middle blocker Randi Neal. They are the top two players in kills per set and look to guide Kentucky State back to their first winning season since 2021. They were predicted to finish fourth in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's West Division.
SCOUTING THE BLUEFIELD STATE BIG BLUES
It has been a tough start to 2025 for the Bluefield State volleyball team. They are 1-8 to start the season, and have only won six individual sets. Just a season ago, Big Blue went 11-4 in conference play and are predicted to have another good year in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association as they were tabbed fifth in the preseason poll. Sophomore setter Gabby Hale was selected to the All-CIAA Preseason squad and has gotten off to a good start, averaging 4.97 assists per set and 2.23 digs per set.
SCOUTING THE WINSTON-SALEM STATE RAMS
Winston-Salem State has gotten off to a 2-3 start to the season. The Rams had two players honored in the CIAA this past week. Graduate student outside hitter Holiday Ellis was named CIAA Offensive Player of the Week and freshman setter Celina Johnson was named Rookie of the Week. The Rams look to continue momentum and finish with winning records in consecutive seasons. They were predicted to finish 4th in the CIAA preseason poll.
SCOUTING THE ROLLINS TARS
The Rollins Tars have come out of the gate firing, winning six of their first eight matches. They were perfect at the Bobcat Classic, winning all four games and dropping only two sets total. After that, they traveled all the way to Alaska to participate in the Ice Block Classic, where they went 2-2. The Tars are led by freshman outside hitter Rylee Yarborough and senior middle blocker Makalya Moran. Moran is hitting a ridiculous .411 on 73 kills to start the young season. Rollins was predicted to finish 9th of 11 teams in the Sunshine State Conference's preseason poll.
