WISE, Va. – The Concord University volleyball team moved to a perfect 6-0 on the season after wins over King and UVa.-Wise on day one of the Cavalier Classic inside the Prior Convocation Center Friday.

Game 1: Concord 3 - King 1 (25-19, 22-25, 27-25, 25-21)
Concord (6-0) started out where they left off last weekend, winning the first set 25-19. King (1-3) evened it up in the second, taking it 25-22. The Mountain Lions sharpened up the rest of the way, winning the third set 27-25 and the deciding fourth set 25-21.

The Mountain Lions saved their best bit of attacking for last, hitting a splendid .344 in the fourth set.

The first set was back-and-forth to start until Concord took five straight points, making it 13-7. From that point on, the Tornados were unable to get fully back into the first set and Concord coasted to a first set win.

Nearly half of King's points in the second set came off Concord errors as KU was able to tie the match at 1-1.

However, Concord shook off the second set and grabbed a 2-1 edge in the match. Concord went on its biggest run in the third set, winning six straight points that saw junior outside hitter
Meg Williams tally four kills and freshman middle hitter
Addison Adkins supply two kills of her own. The 6-0 came late in the set as Concord took a 22-17 lead, and held on to win by two points.

In the fourth, Concord played extremely clean volleyball committing only three errors to King's eight. The offense clicked for 14 kills and junior outside hitter
Chloe Thompson put the match away with her 10th kill.

Williams had a stellar match, finishing with 19 kills, 13 digs, and a hitting percentage of .275. With this performance, Williams picked up her first double-double of the season. Thompson was the other Mountain Lion to notch a double-double, finishing with 10 kills and 13 digs.

Allie Davis had a career day, as she totaled a career-best 33 digs. Concord also had two players with more than 20 assists as junior setter
Paige Richmond finished with 28 and sophomore defensive specialist
Haley Sweeney tallied 21.

Game 2: Concord 3 - UVa.-Wise 0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-22)
In their second game of the day, the Mountain Lions swept the host of the Cavalier Classic, UVa.-Wise (2-4). Concord continues to impress, taking the first set 25-18. In the second set, CU overpowered its foe, hitting .316 as a team and winning the set 25-17. The Cavaliers put together their best performance in the third set, but Concord still came out on top, 25-22.

The Mountain Lions overcame a tough hitting first game as it slowly pulled away from the Cavaliers. CU won at least three points in a row, five separate times in the first set.

In the second set, it was neck-and-neck until mark Concord ripped off six straight points with the set tied at 15-15.Junior middle hitter
Jasmine Anderson smashed home two kills, and a costly Cavaliers' error saw the second set go the way of CU.

The Cavaliers hit .244 in the third set as both teams played a really competitive set. Concord jumped out to a 23-17 advantage after two kills from Thompson and one from sophomore right side
Maddie Stull. With the score at 24-19, UVa.-Wise fought off three straight set points, but a costly error sealed the deal. Concord completed the sweep with a 25-22 third set.

Williams led the way once more, this time with 11 kills and seven digs. Thompson was the other player to have double digit kills, as she finished with 10 for the second straight match. Davis tallied 19 digs and Richmond racked up 22 assists.

Concord led in every major statistical category, including the Mountain Lions hitting a season-best .233

The Mountain Lions continue play at the Cavalier Classic Saturday at 10:00 AM against Barton.
