ATHENS, W.Va. – With so many new faces around the Carter Center for the 2025-26 school year, the Concord Sports Information Department will be highlighting all full-time employees in a Get to Know series throughout the first few weeks of the new athletic year.

Whether those friendly faces have been in Athens for five days or five decades, you'll know more about everyone in the Concord Athletic Department.

Name: Kate Dillon
Position: Head Volleyball Coach
College: Ithaca College (Bachelor's), George Mason University (Master's)
Years at Concord: 17

How did you land at Concord?
I was looking to relocate my family from northern Virginia. I found the job posted on the NCAA site, applied and accepted the job.

Tell us a little bit about where you're from.
I grew up in upstate New York—farm country. I graduated from Moravia Central HS with 87 kids in my graduating class.

What's been your most rewarding experience as an athlete or coach?
The friends I have made and kept in touch with over the years through volleyball. Fellow coaches that are now good friends, referees that even though I have moved I still keep in touch with and parents of players that I have coached that I still hear from. Mostly, watching the players I have coached grow up to be great coaches and moms themselves.

Outside of family, who's had the biggest positive influence on your life?
My high school coach, Terry Palmer, and my high school nurse, Jean Stanton. Both embraced my flaws and went to bat for me when I wasn't at my best in high school. They encouraged me to be a better me every day.

What makes Concord such a special place?
It's family to me.

Favorite vacation spot?
Any body of water, beach, river, lake. If it has sun and water, I'm there.

Go-to junk food?
McDonald's fries and dill pickle chips

What advice would you give today's college student that you have found most valuable?
Your path most definitely will take an unexpected turn. Let it.

What's one bucket list item that you have crossed off and are most proud of?
Being around for the grand babies. Hopefully I'll be able to watch them graduate and go off to college.
