ROUND TRIPPERS
In Tuesday's game at Emory & Henry, the Mountain Lions smashed the single-game home run record for both the program and the MEC as they collected 10 homers in a 19-17 loss to the Wasps. Junior catcher Kaden Swaim launched two home runs as he took over the conference lead in homers (12). Sophomore infielder Nick DiSanti hit his first home run since March 8 as he crushed two long balls, and graduate infielder Ty Livingston hit his first two home runs in the Maroon and Gray. Also homering in the game were junior outfielder Korbin Bostic (fifth of the season), senior infielder Tyson Burke (first of career) junior infielder Matthew DiSanti (second of the year) and senior utility MJ Hunter (third of the year). The old MEC record for single-game home runs was eight done twice by Frostburg State (2024) and West Virginia State (2023). CU's old home run record was set in 2010 against Ohio Valley with five, and matched in 2021 versus Salem.

STRONG ARMS
In last weekend's four-game series at West Virginia Wesleyan, the starting rotation of junior Logan Darrow, graduate student Zach Powell, sophomore Jake Robinson and freshman Broc Taylor were stellar on the mound. The quartet combined to allow nine earned runs over 22 combined innings, an ERA of 3.68. However, Darrow was the only starter to pick up a win against Wesleyan—junior pitcher Kerry Collins had the other victory on the mound in relief for CU. Darrow sports a 2.45 ERA in 22 innings of conference play as he is coming off a career-high eight innings at WVWC. Taylor has only allowed four earned runs over his last 14 innings while piling up 14 strikeouts. And Robinson sports a 3.10 ERA in 20.1 innings against MEC teams. His six wins are second most in the MEC while his 41 strikeouts rank eighth in the conference.

A RIVALRY RENEWED
Since the inception of the MEC, prior to the 2013-14 school year, Concord and West Virginia State have been evenly matched with West Virginia State holding a slight 17-13 advantage in the last 30 games, dating back to the 2017 season. Of those 30 matchups, 16 have been decided by three runs or less. At Anderson Field last season, CU won the first two games of the four-game series, including a 6-5 victory in game two. However, the Yellow Jackets won the final two games with a 6-5 triumph of their own in nine innings in game three. In 2023, the Mountain Lions took the first two games of the weekend, but WVSU came back with a pair of walkoff wins in the final two games to split the season series 2-2. The last time CU won a four-game series over West Virginia State was in 2017 when the Mountain Lions took three of four from the Yellow Jackets.

SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS
West Virginia State's offense is paced by Nathan Paulsen who is hitting .347 with four home runs and 20 RBI. All-conference shortstop Kyle Waters is batting .313 with four home runs and 17 RBI. Last year in Athens, Waters had a go-ahead home run in the ninth inning in WVSU's 6-5 victory. Ayden Hodges is top 10 in the MEC in both ERA (4.34) and strikeouts (49), but in seven of his eight appearances, the West Virginia State offense has supplied five runs or fewer, leading to his 1-5 record. JT Fabian and Brian Lingenfelter have combined for seven wins on the mound.
