Concord Finishes Seventh at Battle of Brunswick

CALABASH, N.C. – The Concord University women's golf team placed seventh at the Battle of Brunswick Friday and Saturday at Brunswick Plantation hosted by Davis & Elkins.
 
CU finished with a two-round team total of 761 after signing cards of 383 in round one and 378 in round two. Saginaw Valley State took first place, compiling a score of 653 and SVSU's Megan Thiravong was the top individual finisher at 143 (+15).
 
Graduate student Mary Denny was the Mountain Lions' top performer on the weekend, finishing 14th in the individual standings after rounds of 86 and 89. She got her first round started with a 40 on the front nine with five pars and led Concord with 10 total pars at the event.
 
Senior Anna Fry was CU's second-best finisher at 28th overall after firing rounds of 94 and 93. Fry logged the team's only birdie of the weekend in round two when she scored a two on the par-3 second. Her best nine was the front nine in the first round where she shot 44 (+8).
 
Freshman Sara Matos Tamargo landed 33rd in the field at 193 and freshman Alley Denny was 41st with a two-day score of 206.
