Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Concord University softball team went 1-1 in day two of their spring break in Florida.

Concord lost 2-0 to Dominican (NY), but bounced back with a 3-2 win over Edinboro in the second game of the afternoon. The Mountain Lions are 5-10 this year.

Game 1: Dominican 2 – Concord 0
Freshman pitcher Mahailey Nicholson and Dominican's Emily Baxter were locked up in a pitcher's dual throughout, but the Chargers found a way to score two runs.

Nicholson escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first, and induced ground ball double plays in the second and third innings to keep the game scoreless.

Dominican finally broke the scoreless deadlock in the top of the fifth with a two-out RBI single. CU pushed the tying run on base in the bottom half as freshman pitcher/outfielder Reghan Hintz led off the inning with a bunt single, however, the Mountain Lions could not string any other offense together in the frame.

Meanwhile, Nicholson stranded two more on base in the sixth to keep the game at 1-0. Dominican was able to scratch across a run in the top of the seventh with a sacrifice.

Down to its last at-bat in the bottom of the inning, junior outfielder Alina Giles reached on a one-out single. Later in the inning, freshman utility Blake Jamerson was able to bring the game-winning run to the plate after she got on base with a pinch hit single. Baxter, though, got the final out of the game to end the Concord threat.

Hintz had two of the six hits for the Concord offense.

Nicholson (2-2) went the distance in the tough luck loss. She allowed two earned runs and struck out four.

Game 2: Concord 3 – Edinboro 2
The Mountain Lions scored the decisive runs in the top of the seventh as it held off the Fighting Scots in the bottom of the seventh for a split on the day.

With the game tied at 1-1 into the final inning or regulation, freshman utility Kristy McCord got the rally started with a leadoff single. Sophomore pitcher Josi Ervin followed with a base knock before the bases were loaded on a fielder's choice. Junior infielder Lacie Lewis brought McCord across when she drew a walk to push Concord ahead 2-1. Two batters later, an RBI groundout scored Ervin.

With Ervin in the circle, she was able to close the game out in the bottom half. The first two batters reached against Ervin, but a pair of fielder's choice outs and a groundout to senior infielder Courtney Raines at second base kept the rally from extending and gave CU a 3-2 win.

The Mountain Lions' first run of the contest came courtesy of an RBI double from Hintz in the fifth that plated McCord after a leadoff walk to star the inning.

Eight different Mountain Lions accounted for hits in the contest. McCord was on base three times with a double and a pair of walks. Lewis also drew two walks and had a hit.

Ervin tossed a complete game as she gave up two runs on five hits and struck out three. She improved to 3-4 this season.

Concord closes its spring break trip with games against Wayne State (Neb.) and Queens College at 9:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Sunday.
