ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team begins postseason play by taking on fourth-seeded Frostburg State in the quarterfinal round of the Mountain East Conference Tournament Thursday at 8:30 p.m. inside WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

STRONG FINISH
CU concluded its regular season with a record-setting performance against Glenville State that finished 99-75 as the Mountain Lions capped off the 2024-25 campaign 15-13 overall and 11-9 against MEC competition. The 99 points scored are the most in a single game this season for Concord while also posting a season-best 51.4 percent field goal percentage. With the win, the Maroon and Gray clinched the fifth seed in the MEC Tournament and will have a rematch over the team they faced in last year's quarterfinal in Frostburg State.

SUPERB SCORING
In the 99-75 win over the Pioneers, three different CU players scored at least 20 points. Junior forward
Abbie Smith led the way with 23 points on 9-for-11 shooting and grabbed 15 rebounds. Senior guard
Sanaiya Morris netted 20 points, snagged nine rebounds, and dished out a team-best six assists. Finally, senior guard
Skylar Davidson finished her career inside the Carter Center with 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and made a team-high seven free throws. It was the first time Concord had three players score at least 20 points in the same game since the trio of Madison May (33), Maggie Guynn (23), and Riley Fitzwater (20) accomplished the feat against West Virginia State in a 103-77 win at home in February 2020.

ALL-CONFERENCE NODS
For their efforts this winter, Smith and Davidson were named All-MEC performers. Smith landed on the All-MEC First Team after being voted to the All-MEC Second Team back-to-back seasons. The Little Hocking, Ohio native ranks fourth in the MEC scoring 17.4 points per game and third in rebounding, snagging 10.5 boards per game. Her 16 double-doubles also lead the MEC and ties for the seventh-most nationally. Davidson was named an All-MEC Second Team performer after leading the league in both assists per game (5.3) and steals per game (3.3). She also averages 11.9 points per game to rank second on the roster behind Smith.

CLOSE CALLS
CU and Frostburg State split the regular season series with each home team emerging victorious. In the first meeting inside Bobcat Arena, Concord fell in a hole early on and could not escape, losing 74-64. Despite the loss, four Mountain Lions scored in double figures with Smith (15) and Davidson (12) leading the way. Morris (11) and graduate forward
Trina Lewis (10) rounded out double digit scorers in the game. In Athens, the Maroon and Gray seized control of a game that featured 19 combined ties and lead changes with a long three-pointer from Davidson with six seconds remaining in regulation to grab a 79-77 win. Davidson led CU with 20 points while junior forward
Imani Hickman threw in 18 points and a pair of three-pointers. In the series, five out of the last seven matchups between Concord and FSU have been decided by 10 points or less.

FIRST TEAM FACEOFF
Smith will matchup with another All-MEC First Teamer in the paint in Frostburg State's Emilee Weakley. Weakley leads Division II in scoring, putting up 28.1 points per game. Weakley is a three-time All-MEC First Team member, earning MEC Freshman of the Year in 2023-23 and was MEC Player of the Year in 2023-24. Weakley scored 28 points in both meetings against CU this winter, picking up a double-double at Bobcat Arena December 11. While being top 10 scorers in the league, Smith and Weakley also appear rank top five in field goal percentage, rebounding, and top 10 in free throw percentage.

AT THE TOP
While Smith and Weakley battle it out in the paint, Davidson and FSU guard Taylor Smith will meet at the point guard position. Both Davidson and T. Smith landed on the All-MEC Second Team this season for the first time in their careers. Both players are the second-leading scorers on their respective teams and rank in the top three in the MEC in assists per game. T. Smith netted 11 points in both games and combined for six rebounds and five assists against the Maroon and Gray. While Davidson was active on the offensive end against FSU, she also showed up defensively, taking away seven steals between both outings.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Frostburg State rode a six-game winning streak into the regular season finale against Fairmont State, but fell in overtime, 92-82. Alongside Weakley, T. Smith (10.5) and freshman forward Julie Spinelli (10.5) both average at least 10 points per game for FSU. T. Smith ranks third in the MEC dishing out 4.4 assists per game and senior center Jasmine Johnson ranks second in the league in blocks per game (1.8).
