BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Junior catcher Kaden Swaim and freshman pitcher Broc Taylor of the Concord University baseball team have been named the Mountain East Conference Player of the Week and MEC Pitcher of the Week, presented by The Health Plan, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Swaim shared MEC Player of the Week honors with West Virginia State's Kyle Waters while Taylor was the MEC Co-Pitcher of the Week with WVSU's Brandon Morrison.

Swaim, a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is the MEC Player of the Week after a week that saw him bat .647 (11-for-17) with three home runs, two doubles and 11 RBI as Concord went 4-1. Swaim had a hit in all five games while collecting four multi-hit games. He started the weekend by going 6-for-7 versus Wheeling in a doubleheader sweep of the Cardinals. Swaim tallied his second multi-home run game of the season in a 9-5 CU win in game two while driving in six runs. Swaim came back on Sunday afternoon to go a combined 4-for-7 with a home run and five more RBI in two wins over West Liberty. Two of the three home runs hit by Swaim were three-run shots. For the week, he slugged 1.248.

After his stellar week, Swaim is now tied for the MEC lead in RBI (34) and ranks second in home runs (nine).

Taylor had his best outing in a Concord uniform versus West Liberty Sunday. Taylor needed just 48 pitches to toss five shutout innings as he allowed two base runners, including just one hit. Taylor rolled up a career-best five strikeouts. He faced the minimum through the first 11 batters of the game before a two-out hit in the fourth. The Stuart, Virginia native earned his first career win in helping the Mountain Lions pick up their third shutout of the season.
