LYNCHBURG, Va. – Middle-distance performances and throwing events highlighted the action for the Concord University men's track & field team Friday and Saturday at the Jack Toms Invite hosted by the University of Lynchburg.
Concord packed seven athletes into the top 20 of the 1,500-meter run.
The effort was led by sophomore
Braden Ward who won the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:02.93.
Six Mountain Lions occupied spots 11
th through 19
th. Sophomore
Andrew Tickle was 11
th in a career-best time of 4:11.07. Freshman
Reese Hickey also sported a career-best time of 4:11.28 as he placed 12
th. Fellow freshman
Brandon Canaday was two spots back in 4:12.87. Senior
Zach Wilson had a personal-record time of 4:13.93 as he finished 16
th. Freshman
Garrett Kinder followed in 17
th with a time of 4:14.58. And junior
Alex Irvin rounded out the top performers in a career-best time 4:15.83, good enough for 19
th.
Sophomore
AJ Skeens crossed in third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he clocked 10:05.56.
Ward ran 1:58.25 to place 17
th in the 800-meter run.
Sophomore
Shawn Bennett had a pair of top-15 finishes in the throwing events. He was 11
th in the shot put with a toss of 10.02 meters. Meanwhile, Benett finished 12
th in the discus as his best throw was 32.64 meters.
CU competes in two meets next weekend, the Golden Eagle Invite hosted by Charleston and the VertKlasse Meeting at High Point.
