Box Score HICKORY, N.C. – The Concord University baseball team was defeated by nationally-ranked, eighth-rated Lenoir-Rhyne, 12-4, Tuesday night in a non-conference contest at Durham Field.
Concord's pitching staff held the potent LR (25-4) offense in check through three innings as the Mountain Lions (12-11) only trailed 2-0 after three innings. However, the Bears plated two runs in the fourth and added five runs in the fifth.
CU made a push in the seventh inning. Senior utility
MJ Hunter led off the frame with a double before moving to third on an infield single by senior outfielder
Demetri Jamison. The next batter, graduate infielder
Ty Livingston, had an opposite field double to right to bring in Hunter. And two batters later, Jamison touched home.
The offensive momentum continued in the eighth with two more doubles for the Mountain Lions. Senior infielder
AJ Strickland had a two-base knock to center field to begin the inning before coming around to score on a double by fellow senior infielder
Tyson Burke two batters later. After Burke's two-base hit, junior catcher
Austin Hear followed with a sacrifice to get fellow junior catcher
Kaden Swaim home.
Concord pounded out 10 hits and outhit Lenoir-Rhyne, 10-8. No Concord player had more than one hit. Swaim was 1-for-3 with a walk. Burke and Strickland had their first double of the season Tuesday.
Junior pitcher (2-2) was the pitcher of record for CU as he allowed two runs in 2.0 innings of work. He notched two strikeouts. Sophomore pitcher
Mason Kisamore had tossed 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
After a six-game road trip, Concord returns to Anderson Field 1:00 p.m. Saturday for a Mountain East Conference versus Wheeling.
