MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Concord University men's track & field team was 14
th at the Myrtle Beach Challenge that wrapped up Saturday evening at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
Concord was tenth among non-Division I schools. Appalachian State won the meet.
The Mountain Lions produced two top-10 finishes in the 10,000-meter run. Junior
Alex Irvin ran a personal-record time of 33:01.84 to finish fifth. Sophomore
Bramley Childress was three spots back in 33:23.85. CU got a top-three showing in the 5,000-meter run from sophomore
Braden Ward as he crossed in 15:18.25, good enough for third. Freshman
Brandon Canaday placed 19
th with a time of 15:49.26.
Ward added a sixth-place finish in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:48.05. Senior
Logan Zuchelli came through in 15
th as he clocked 9:01.73.
Concord had three different relays finish seventh. The 4x100-meter relay squad of sophomore
Ryan Covington, senior
Ian Gardner, freshman Jaden Judge and freshman
Brady Prior clocked 43.65 seconds. In the 4x200-meter relay, freshman
Luke Davis, Gardner, freshman
Landon Meredith and Prior sprinted 1:29.52. And in the 4x800-meter relay, freshmen
Reese Hickey and
Garrett Kinder along with sophomores
AJ Skeens and
Andrew Tickle ran 8:05.52.
CU's 4x400-meter relay team of freshman
Tobi Adebulu, Davis, freshman
Aaron Miller and Meredith combined for 3:37.91 to finish 16
th.
Adebulu cleared 1.75 meters in the open high jump to finish fifth.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Zuchelli led a trio of Mountain Lions in the top 20. Zuchelli placed ninth in 9:47.45. Tickle clocked 10:06.17 in 13
th and sophomore
Wes Holcomb was 19
th in a time of 10:49.78.
Gardner placed 16
th in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.53 seconds.
Concord competes at the 49er Classic March 20-22 in Charlotte.
