ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team defeated Shepherd 4-2 in game one before dropping the second game in a non-conference doubleheader at Anderson Field Saturday afternoon.

With the split, the Mountain Lions move to 4-6 on the season while Shepherd sits at 4-8 overall.

Game One: Concord 4 – Shepherd 2
CU used a strong start from graduate pitcher
Zach Powell to pick up a win in game one.

Powell gave up one run in the top of the first, but he struck out two hitters to bring Concord's bats to the plate for the first time. Junior first baseman
Matthew DiSanti was hit by a pitch with one out in the frame and advanced to second on a balk.

Then, junior catcher
Kaden Swaim crushed a ball to center field that went over the wall for his first home run as a member of the Maroon and Gray and shot CU in front, 2-1.

The Rams tied the game in the top of the third, but Concord had another quick response in the bottom half of the inning. DiSanti reached base for the second time on a leadoff walk. After a groundout that moved DiSanti to second, junior outfielder
Korbin Bostic pushed a ball through the right side that gave the Mountain Lions a 3-2 advantage.

Senior outfielder
Demetri Jamison picked up an infield single to kick off the bottom of the fifth and moved to third after a single from DiSanti. While CU hit into a double play the next at bat, Jamison scored and gave Concord another insurance run, 4-2.

Powell closed the door on the SU lineup, facing the minimum in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings before being lifted in the seventh. Junior pitcher
Logan Darrow picked up the final three outs and clinched his first save of the season.

Six different Mountain Lions picked up base hits in the game with Swaim (two) and Bostic (one) leading the way with runs batted in. Powell (1-2) picked up the win on a final line of 6.0 innings pitched, three hits allowed, one earned run given up, all while fanning six Rams' hitters.

Game Two: Shepherd 7 – Concord 1
Shepherd jumped in front 1-0 in game two, and locked down the CU offense for the win.

Concord got its bats going in the fourth, as senior utility
MJ Hunter picked up a two-out single through the left side. Then, sophomore infielder
Nick DiSanti dropped a ball in the right-center gap, scoring Hunter from first to third to trail 2-1.

CU threatened again in the fifth and seventh innings, but left two runners on base in each frame.

SU added its final runs in the fifth and sixth innings, locking down a 7-1 road victory.

N. DiSanti led the Maroon and Gray in game two with a pair of hits and drove in the only CU run. M. DiSanti, Swaim, Hunter, and senior outfielder
D.J. Christian Jr. also picked up hits in the contest with sophomore outfielder/pitcher
Demario Faison (0-1) taking the loss on the mound. Faison allowed two earned runs across 4.0 innings of work and picked up six strikeouts.

Concord keeps its long home stand going, hosting Millersville for a four-game series Friday and Saturday.
