FINISH THE SEASON STRONG
A few Mountain Lions carry the momentum from the 2024 season over to the 2025 campaign as they finished on a high note last spring. Senior utility
MJ Hunter concluded the 2024 season by notching a hit in four straight games while recording at least one RBI in three of the final four games. Additionally, Hunter hit safely in 17 of 22 games in the months of April and May last season. Sophomore pitcher
Jake Robinson put together one of his best start of his freshmen season in his penultimate start of the year. The Raleigh, North Carolina native tossed six shutout innings at Charleston while striking out five April 28. And in four of his last six appearances of last spring, Robinson recorded four starts with three or fewer earned runs while striking out 31 over 30.2 innings.
NEW FACES, NEW PLACES
Head coach Drew Bailey coaches his first games in the CU dugout this weekend. The former CU pitcher who was drafted in 2010 by the Oakland Athletics won 95 games as Bluefield State's head coach over the last four years. Among the new faces Bailey brought in are graduate pitchers
Joseph Hastings (Virginia State),
Coby Ingle (Western Carolina) and
Zach Powell (Bluefield State) who are expected to see the mound this weekend. Junior outfielder
Korbin Bostic also came with Bailey from BSU and should factor into the Mountain Lions' lineup. Junior catcher
Kaden Swaim (Cleveland CC) and junior infielder
Matthew DiSanti (Fingerlakes CC) are junior college transfers for the program, and sophomore infielder
Nick DiSanti comes in from the University of Mount Olive.
NON-CONFERENCE GAMES, NO PROBLEM
The first 13 games for the Mountain Lions will be non-conference contests before Mountain East Conference play begins March 15 against Frostburg State. Last season, Concord was 10-6 in out-of-league games. Individually, junior outfielder
Dawson Gragg was slightly better in non-conference competition last season. Gragg hit .333 (17-for-51) in those 16 games. He added 11 of his 28 RBI in non-conference contests. Overall, Gragg was a .321 hitting last year. Sophomore pitcher/outfielder
Demario Faison had 12 hits in 34 non-conference at-bats (.353 average) last year. Saturday will be the first meeting between Concord and Mars Hill since 2005—a MHU sweep in a doubleheader.

SCOUTING THE LIONS
Mars Hill lost two of out of three on opening weekend against USC-Aiken, and lost to Belmont Abbey Tuesday, but bounced with a win over King, 13-11, Wednesday. MHU used a walkoff grand slam in the bottom of the ninth form Max LaLime to power past King. Though batting just .190 on the season, LaLime has a team-best nine RBI. Walker Fox is hitting .389 with seven RBI. The Lions have used a stable of pitching thus far with 11 different players throwing at least two innings.
