Complete Regional Rankings
INDIANAPOLIS – The Concord University men's basketball team has bee slotted ninth in the second release of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Rankings that were unveiled Wednesday afternoon.
West Liberty topped the rankings with Gannon, Fayetteville State, East Stroudsburg and West Chester rounding out the top five. Virginia State was sixth followed by Fairmont State, California (Pa.) and Concord. The final team in the rankings was Claflin.
The Atlantic Regional Rankings determine the eight teams from the region that will advance to the NCAA Tournament after completion of conference tournaments. Three automatic bids will be handed out to conference tournament winners from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the Mountain East and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
The remaining five bids will be the highest remaining at-large teams in the regional rankings.
One more release of the regional rankings will come out next Wednesday, March 5 before the NCAA Division II men's basketball selection show March 9.
CU is seeking its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, a feat that has never been accomplished in program history.
The Mountain Lions play at West Virginia State 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
