Concord Powers Past Emory & Henry, 11-8

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team exploded for six runs in the eighth inning to pick up an 11-8 win over Emory & Henry in a non-conference clash at Anderson Field Tuesday afternoon.

With the game tied at 5-5, the Mountain Lions (3-5) sent nine to the plate as they did all their damage with one out in the inning. A hit batter, a single and an intentional walk loaded the bases with no outs. E&H (1-13) recorded the first out in the frame, but Concord went to work.

Senior outfielder Demetri Jamison cleared the bases with a three-run triple out to right field to break the stalemate. Junior infielder Matthew DiSanti followed with a single to bring in Jamison. Junior catcher Kaden Swaim and junior outfielder Korbin Bostic added run-scoring hits with one out to complete the rally.

Concord plated the game's first run with an RBI groundout in the first, but trailed 2-1 after three innings.

The Mountain Lions did not regain the lead until the bottom of the fourth when a triple from Bostic and an infield single by senior utility MJ Hunter put a pair of runners on for junior outfielder Dawson Gragg to come up with a two-run triple. The rally was extended by sophomore infielder Nick DiSanti who singled home Gragg during the next at-bat.

Up 4-2, CU's lead grew in the bottom of the fifth as Bostic launched Concord's first home run of the season, a solo shot, out to right field.

But, the Wasps score one run in each of their next three at-bats to tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the eighth.

Bostic paced Concord's 12-hit afternoon by going 3-for-5 with three RBI as he finished a double shy of the cycle. Both of Swaim's hits were doubles. The DiSanti brothers both had two-hit games with each driving in a run.

Jamison notched three RBI on his triple in the eighth. Gragg had two RBI and scored twice.

The triples by Bostic, Gragg and Jamison helped CU set a single-game program record for triples with three.

Freshman pitcher Braylen Baker (1-0) was the pitcher of record as he tallied the final out in the eighth. CU's most effective pitcher was graduate student Joseph Hastings who retired all six batters he faced in the fourth and fifth innings.

Fellow graduate pitcher Coby Ingle allowed two runs in three innings in the start.

The Mountain Lions continue their 12-game home stand when they face Shepherd in a doubleheader 12:00 p.m. Saturday.
