Concord Drops Doubleheader at Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va. – The Concord University softball team lost a pair of games on the road to Emory & Henry Saturday afternoon at Wasps Field.

After the doubleheader, CU falls to 2-7 on the season while E&H improves to 9-3.

Game One: Emory & Henry 15 – Concord 2 (Five Innings)
The Mountain Lions struck first, but were unable to keep up in game one.

Freshman utility Blake Jamerson got the game started with a double to right field. Later in the frame, junior infielder Courtney Raines was hit by a pitch and junior infielder Lacie Lewis followed with an infield single that scored Jamerson to give Concord a 1-0 lead.

Sophomore infielder Kendall Morgan kept the rally going, singling to left field to load the bases with one out. Then, junior outfielder Alina Giles poked a ball through the middle to extend the advantage 2-0.

Lewis picked up another base hit in the third, but the Mountain Lions were unable to capitalize as the Wasps closed out the first game in five innings.

Lewis was 2-for-2 at the dish with an RBI and a run scored. Ervin (1-2) took the loss in the circle while freshman pitcher/outfielder Reghan Hintz pitched 3.1 innings in relief.

Game Two: Emory & Henry 19 – Concord 6 (Five Innings)
Emory & Henry jumped ahead quick in game two, but the Maroon and Gray plated runs in the second, third, and fourth innings.

Morgan and Raines reached base to start the second frame, and Hintz picked up an RBI on a two-out infield single.

In the third, Lewis singled through the middle and Raines followed up with a two-run home run, her first of the season. Raines' blast is the third team homer on the season as CU trailed 19-3 after three.

With one out in the fourth, Concord drove in runs in three consecutive plate appearances to cap off its scoring in game two. Freshman utility Kristy McCord started the fourth inning rally with a single down the left field line that scored Hintz. Then, Lewis hit a ball through the left side that scored junior catcher/utility Gianna Sloan-Lebron and advanced McCord to third.

Morgan delivered the final RBI of the day for the Mountain Lions as E&H completed the twinbill sweep.

Lewis and Morgan led CU with two hits each in game two. Five different players logged RBIs led by Raines with two. Freshman pitcher/utility Mahailey Nicholson (1-1) was the losing pitcher in the game, surrendering three earned runs.
