BURN IT DOWN
Sophomore guard
Madison Young has burned down the nets recently, draining 13 three-pointers over her last three games and was named MEC Player of the Week. The Stokesdale, N.C. native made three three-point baskets against Point Park to start her run and followed up by tying the single-game program record of six triples against West Virginia Wesleyan. In the last game against Davis & Elkins, Young made four three-pointers to log the most three-pointers in a three-game stretch since at least 2010. Before Young, the most three-pointers in a three-game set since the 2010 season was Rachel Artrip in February 2015 when she made 12 three-pointers to begin the month.
Â
MAKE IT FIVE
Young's four three-pointers and an 18-point game from junior forward
Abbie Smith fueled an eight-point victory over Davis & Elkins to extend the Mountain Lions' win streak to five games, the largest win streak for CU since the 2021-22 season. Concord outpaced the Senators 24-17 in the first quarter and let its defense take over the rest of the way. The Maroon and Gray held D&E to a season-low in scoring with 57 points, as well as a season-low in field goal percentage (25.7 percent). Smith finished 8-for-10 from the field and grabbed nine rebounds. Young compiled 15 points and grabbed a career-best seven rebounds. Sophomore guard
Alexis Frazee might not have entered the scoring column, but she grabbed six rebounds, dished out four assists, and swiped a game-high three steals.
Â
FILLING THE STAT SHEET
Earlier this winter, CU senior guard
Skylar Davidson and Wheeling junior guard Kenzie Dalton put on a show in the Carter Center. Davidson scored 13 points, came away with five steals, grabbed four rebounds, and dished our three assists. Dalton netted 12 points, snagged 11 boards, picked away six steals, and notched four assists. Both players rank atop the MEC in both steals and assists while averaging over eight points per game. Davidson ranks first in the league in assists per game (5.4) and steals per game (3.3) while scoring 11.4 points per game. Dalton ranks second in assists per game (4.5) and steals per game (3.0) while contributing 8.2 points per game.
Â
POST UP
Not only are two of the MEC's best point guards set to battle, as two of the conference's top post players will be on display. Smith leads CU and is third in the league in scoring (17.5) and third in rebounding (10.5) while being tied for seventh in Division II with 13 double-doubles. Wheeling junior forward Rachel Wilson averages a team-best 12.0 points per game and grabs the fourth-most boards per game (9.4). Back in January when Concord and WU met, Smith logged a game-best 23 points along with 10 rebounds and swatted three blocks, while Wilson was held to just three points, but grabbed 12 rebounds and had two steals.

ENDING THE TREND
The first meeting this season between the Mountain Lions and Cardinals featured 12 tied and six lead changes, with Wheeling exiting the Carter Center with a 75-67 win in overtime. Concord commanded a double-digit lead in the first half before overcoming a two-point deficit with under a minute to play to force extra time. Davidson stepped through a Wheeling defender and found the back of the net with 11 seconds left in regulation to give each team five more minutes of play. In the series, the home team had won 11-straight meetings before January 18. The last time CU got a win at the McDonough Center was January 2019, where the Maroon and Gray eased its way to a 90-51 victory.
